Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was totally surprised when I read some of the reviews as we've always found bar staff friendly and helpful. There is a great selections of beers and always new ones to try. White and rose wines by glass also good. It is small with industrial modern decor but that's part of its charm as it is different to other local pubs .

A 'different' sort of pub, being a modern, small one-roomed 'micropub', with the emphasis on quality cask conditioned beers (4 hand pulls) and 'craft keg' beers (2 fonts), plus 'craft' bottles and cans. Non-beer drinkers are catered for with a 'real' cider on the bar, and a small selection of quality wines, spirits and soft drinks. The beer selection is constantly changing, with beer from breweries local and distant, well-known and not so well-known, so there is usually something new and interesting to try! Beer quality is spot-on, and prices are reasonable at £3 upwards for cask, and around £4.50 for keg - interestingly, the craft keg is only sold by the half pint or by the schooner (two-thirds).
Bar snacks are available such as cheese platters and pork pie, and a variety of crisps and nuts.
In short, a great addition to the choice of drinking establishments in Saltaire / Shipley.

We have always been very welcomed in this place, we've seen it from near its opening and little by little, additions and changes are being made as the business grows; it feels safe and cosy and the decoration is lovely. It's very clean as well.
The beers you'll find here are NOT mainstream, it's a place to try new drinks and enjoy them at a leisurely pace. They serve Brewdog and Beavertown beers amongst others. I have always been allowed to try any ale if I wasn't sure whether I was going to like it or not and been treated very nicely, so I am puzzled by the bad reviews posted by other users. They also have a beer menu that gives you an idea of what the beers will be like. I've visited quite a few times with a positive outcome in all cases. Yes the beer is not super cheap but again, the drinks are well different in this place and that is why it feels unique.

The Cap n' Collar is a 'hobby' bar, presumably run by people who made money in the financial sector and thought it would be fun to run a bar. (The name gives it away))
The beer is OK but it isn't run likea pub. Example: Friday 10.42 a staff member asks if we want any more beer. Our glasses are half full; wesay 'not just now'.
10.48 We decide to get a last round in. But the bar is closed - despite advertising an 11.00 close.
It feels like its a bar run for the benefit of the owners and staff.
It must be nice to run a business where you are not bothered about making any money, but this one decision this evening has, unbeknown to them, lost a lot of business. They won't care.

Outrageously dear - selling beer by the third of a pint to cover up the cost of nearly £5.00 a pint as well as selling a single Pork Pie at £2.50 - this is Yorkshire we are in isnt it? - not central London!
Rude bar Staff, terrible class collecting and one toilet for the whole bar!
Avoid this place at all costs

I would have given Cap and Collar a higher rating as they've got many things right. Read on to find out what they got wrong...
With no room for a cellar area, putting the casks behind glass behind the bar is a great idea. Many pubs and bars are now displaying both casks and brewing equipment as you'll find in Tapped in Leeds,The Sheffield Tap at Sheffield Train Station and Sheffield's Brewhouse. It looks good and it's interesting.
There was a wide range of beers, the report back from the group I was with said they were all really well kept. Another reviewer has complained about the lack of "popular" beers. Well go to Weatherspoons then. There aren't enough bars and pubs serving interesting craft ales and Cap and Collar have to be commended for their range.
The interior of Cap and Collar is clean and bright, the unisex toilet was nicely done out although as a woman I didn't like sharing a facility with men, because, predictably, there was urine on the floor round the toilet bowl. Not the fault of the bar, but this is often a problem with unisex toilets in pubs and bars once men have had a few...
However. And this is a very big however. The owner was rude to a member of our party, who returned to our table with drinks extremely crestfallen and upset that he'd been treated so abruptly. Another member of our party described the owner's behaviour as "sneering and just plain rude."
It was busy, there were about ten people at the bar. But there is no excuse for rudeness to people who are *paying you*. Several in our party said they'd never go back because of this and I won't be returning either.
I expect this kind of rudeness in London, but not here up North. When I go out I like to consume the best food and drink and I like to be in nice surroundings, but most of all I want to have a nice time. If someone in my group is so upset they want to leave, that ruins the experience completely. Customer service is vitally important, not just when it's quiet, but when it's busy too, and being friendly to your locals but snotty to newcomers isn't best for business.
Cap and Collar have lost a few future customers...

This is a great little micro pub, where you can relax and catch up with friends. The staff are friendly, know their beers, and always able to suggest a beer based on your preferences. Range of beers is excellent, as are the pork pies. Decor and facilities are great - wifi is much appreciated- just ask for the code. They hosted an excellent Meet the Brewer event a couple of weeks ago. Love going to see what new beers they've managed to get their mits on.

Run by the lovely Phil & Jenna, great décor, welcome atmosphere, great nibbles and a good selection of beers and ales on a rotating basis. I am spending far too much time in there (with MancLee) so that tells you a lot!...just go!

As a newcomer to 'real' ales / stouts / beers im always a little unsure about entering the realm of the expert the real a pub. This however Is friendly, relaxed and accommodating. Good range to try but also you're not scowled at if you fancy a h&w or glass of red.
The layout facilitates meeting others and a genuine sense of sociability. The decide cool but not showy and chintzy. Nice range of pork pies and bar type snacks.
All in all a great addition to Saltaire.

Sterile micro-pub of little atmosphere or character. Expensive beers - tonight overcharged by an amateur bar person who admitted her error but laughed it off, and then to irritate further, the pretentious clientle was joined by a peacenick attention-seeker sporting a white poppy! Could it get any worse!
