Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had gone to this part of southern Spain to vist the Donana National and Natural parks near El Rocio. After touring the Parks, we drove to Playa Matascalanas and walked along the beach for several hours. (we had not read of this beach in any guidebook). We had avoided all of Costa del Sol for being too built up and crowded with tourists, so Matascalanas was a very pleasant discovery—practically empty in May in mid-week. (this is the closest beach to hot Sevilla and was crowded on the weekend and is very crowded in july-August. We liked it so much we moved from El Rocio to the beach and stayed 3 days. The ocean is on the Atlantic side of Cadiz, but was calm with small waves, good for swimming, and great beachcombing.

Great beach for families. Very warm
water and fine sand. Has some
litter during busy season and gets a bit crowded. The beach is full
At sunset, which is at about 21:00
In August.

The beach is definitely a locals hangout, especially for families. But we really enjoyed it and blended right in. The beach is clean, safe and great way to get place to escape the summer heat.

Developed with facilities. Crowded but still space. Quiet, like no bars blasting music etc. Windy like most atlantic ones.

Nice beach. Go in 'winter' when there are almost no people. But be aware that most beach bars are only open in summer. Great place to watch the sunset.

It is a shame that as of July 16, 2024 there is not a shower on the entire beach. It is shameful and outrageous the lack of hygiene. We will not return until we realize that the shower is necessary.

The beach is so large that there are no crowds (less in the tower area)
It's great at any time of year,
The walks at low tide are wonderful. Both through the area of Doñana and the ravines towards Mazagón.

I loved it. Could someone tell me the price of the umbrella with the 2 sun loungers this year. Thank you. I'm going this Saturday and it's to find out.

A very nice and long beach, very clean and well-kept, plenty of room for swimming and to put your towel, umbrella, etc., a good option.

As beautiful as it is, we couldn't enjoy even 10 seconds of the atrocity of mosquitoes that were there, it's just crazy, we ended up having to go to the pharmacy because there is no part of the body that hasn't been burned. It's not that you're out there and there are a couple of mosquitoes hanging around, it's that there isn't a couple of seconds where you don't see yourself surrounded by at least 10 mosquitoes. It is a holy barbarity, I have seen something similar in my life, it is there to be fumigated. It may be due to time but the amount of dirt and piss that is lying around is sure to have an influence, you couldn't even make a calm video.
