Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful building that offers lovely views that contains a small and rather mediocre collection related to the history and culture of Mardin. Has some English-language translations but the colour/design is poor for those with eyesight problems and some of the content is incorrect. Even reading all sings takes no more than hour. The cost for foreign tourists is well overpriced at 7 Euros (263 TL) in summer 2024.

The Main Square of the City of Mardin is where the museum is located. In all the photos (including mine) the centre of Mardin and its old town look luring. However, once you see it in real life, you realise that not all that glitters is gold.

By entering the museum you would expect a small hall with some monuments but the moment you enter you would be surprised in the content of the museum and how nice it is.

Obviously I couldn't visit it but it looks rich and considering Mardin's history it must be amazing. However, Mardin is plenty of places to visit and even a stroll on the main street is a great way of spending the afternoon.

They accept the Museum Card for free entrance. None of the guides speak English. It is a former Christian monastery and is beautiful. Many ancient artifacts but the object descriptions are limited. Also, descriptions of historical life in Mardin are limited. There is a short 3D film about Mardin's region but it is in Turkish with no English sub-titles.

The building itself was worth the small admission fee. It is a former Christian monastery and is quite lovely. There were a few nice items from Seljuk times. If you are in the center of Mardin and have a bit of time to spare, this is a nice thing to do. Otherwise, don't go out of your way.

The museum in located in the old part of the city, it is surprisingly rich with a large variety of artifacts locally discovered and very well presented. It was a pleasant and informative experience.

The museum is located in a very nice and old house, with a terrace overlooking the plains of northern Syria. There are many artifacts inside the museum, some dating 4000 years or so. There are English translations all over the place and the chambers are divided not on historical periods, but on the types of artifacts (a room with coins, one with weapons, other with religious statues etc). Very nice indeed.

Museums aren’t usually our thing but this museum was really enjoyable. 5TL admission with a structure that allows you to experience the historical Mardin. And includes human skeletons! It’s not huge, but there are a lot of details so you probably need about an hour or so at least (although more if you want to comb through everything). The church was closed when we went so timing doesn’t take that into consideration.
