    A close encounter with Puffins
Easy to book online (recommended) helpful staff at reception. Pleasant crossing to island on modern boat, crew gave commentary and spotted birds etc en route. Island itself was quite easy to navigate and paths clearly marked. Its essential to keep to paths as Puffins nest quite close to routes and `feet' can easily collapse burrows and kill occupants. Wildlife was awesome...Puffins everywhere and not shy. Hundreds of other seabirds in colonies but I'd wanted to see Puffins.

Magic wildlife, friendly rangers and well organised trip
A wild place with no facilities other than toilets because first and foremost it's a nature reserve, of international importance for underwater marine life and sea birds such as the loveable puffins which breed there from April to August. So it's really worth the money as every penny goes towards conservation of the habitat, and the rangers and volunteers work hard to balance enjoyment for the visitors with the impact they cause. I absolutely loved my day there, it was possible to walk all round the island , sticking to the tiny paths to avoid treading on the delicate burrows which contained Manx Shearwaters sheltering during daylight hours. The puffins were easy to see close up and there were thousands in the water at the foot of the cliffs and flying around. If you love nature more than cafes this is a wonderful day out, but dress warm and bring a sandwich!

Puffins, puffins everywhere on beautiful wild Skomer.
A truly memorable experience for all the right reasons. Early April so we were nervous that the Puffins may not yet have arrived but they had and in full force. The day was dry but windy and cold but we were layered and booted up so were able to enjoy the beautiful wildness of Skomer. Not only did we see puffins but also porpoise, seals, rabbits and a whole host of other seabirds! The ferry crossing was great and Jim the crossing master was very entertaining both there and back and clearly had a passion for all things Skomer. It is definitely worth the money and once you see the comical little birds it’s a memory you’ll keep for ever. Do make sure you dress for wild weather/check the weather forecast - lots of people not appropriately dressed did struggle with the wind and mud. Don’t hesitate, book, go and enjoy.

    Amazing day trip to Skomer
Amazing trip to Skomer. I wasn't sure if there would be many puffins this early in the season (8th April) but there were lots of them, and it was very special to see so many of them and so close up! 5 hours was a perfect amount of time for a day trip on the island and Young Jim's commentary on the boat ride there and back was fun and informative (although sometimes hard to hear from the back of the boat). Dress warmly, pack plenty of food/water and go and pay this incredible island a visit!

    Great Day Trip
We had a very nice day on the island. It’s roughly a 6 mile / 3 hour hike around the perimeter, but you’ll need to visit the farmhouse in the middle for toilet stops. The path is a pretty easy walk, but a bit steep in some places. The puffins are a highlight, for sure, but there are plenty of other things to see. We were very fortunate to have a warm, sunny day. I imagine it would not be much fun in a windy, rainy day.

    Superb Skomer
We had a magical day on Skomer. We saw lots of puffins and allsorts of other birds and took some lovely photographs. We were fortunate that the weather was superb and had prepared well with a picnic and enough water for the day. A wonderful experience and highly recommended.

    An absolute must visit. 10/10!
An absolute must. This trip was an easy 10/10 for me. Polite, passionate & knowledgeable staff that are genuinely supporting an amazing conservation stronghold. We saw record numbers of Puffins when there on a sunny day in may, as well as stunning fields of wild flowers and costal views. We saw seals, birds of prey and of course thousands of charismatic little puffins. What a fantastic day would 100% recommend this to absolutely anyone.

    Just magical
Second visit to Skomer and I love it more and more each time. It is simply a magical place. Took my mum and sister this time and we just had the best visit. The puffins are incredible. They are so beautiful and I love how much character they have. It’s amazing how close you can get to them at the Wick - when they pop up out of their burrows to say hello. The rest of Skomer is amazing. Really beautiful walks. The blue bells were out when we were there and it was just stunning. It’s a very special place. Spotted loads of other wildlife too. Already looking forward to another visit next year.

    Skomer Meditation and Therapy
Visiting Skomer Island for a 5 hour trip should be on the bucket list of anyone interested in the natural world. For many the Puffins may be the trigger to visit Skomer but there's so much more to see. Everyone on the island seemed to decelerate from the pressures of 21st century life and the focus on the wildlife created an atmosphere of true reverence and calm. It was genuinely like entering a state of calm tranquility as the birds and flowers took main stage. Conversations became whispers or simply melted away. There's no doubt we'll be back

    Wonderful Skomer
What a wonderful experience. The trip takes around 5 hours in total. Blissfully quiet and tranquil there are no shops or places to eat so a packed lunch is recommended. We saw a variety of birds and other wildlife including seals. The highlight though was the puffins. Just amazing and highly recommend.

Skomer island is out of this world. Spent five hours walking the island and following puffins that were active and rather tame. Photo is taken with a zoom, but you do get very close to the birds who don't seem to mind.

We are a family of four - two adults and two children 13 and 11. We went in late August which is not the best time to go; the puffins have left, you don't see the Manx shearwaters during the day and the weather is a little variable! however, it is still a really special place. We saw seal pups and seals, enjoyed the desolate beauty and spotted a peregrine, which was very special.

Went there at the last week of July hoping that we might still be able to see some puffins. The weather was nice but very windy. Took us around 3 hours to walk through the whole island and luckily we saw plenty of puffins and other animals like rabbits. Lovely experience.

My daughter arranged a two night stay on Skomer for my Christmas present. I have stayed before and knew what to expect. It is a privilege to be able to stay here and to have the island to yourself after the tourists have all gone. It is truly amazing to see so many puffins and other birds such as the Manx Shearwaters. I loved every minute of it and will definitely be going again when we can arrange it. The bunkhouse facilities are good with well equipped kitchens and the beds are comfortable. The only issue we had this time was that the boiler was broken so we had to do without showers which was ok for two nights.

Had an amazing day, puffins, grey seals and more, the volunteers who help run Skomer Island were brilliant so knowledgeable and helpful and friendly, we did the boat trip with 5 hours on Skomer island, highly recommend, takes 15 mins each way, you can return earlier if you want, time flies, take a picnic only water on the Island which you need cash for £1 a bottle, you can hire binoculars for £5, 4 toilets on island at the farm which is the picnic spot. There is a steep climb up steps and up hill onto the mountain, we worth the effort, lots of walking where suitable shoes and clothing for all weathers it can change. Puffins up close atThe Wick, we saw them with sand eels in their mouths going into burrows to feed their chicks, they are home by 1st week of August. Definitely recommend and will come back.

What a fantastic place! The island is beautiful, and to get so close to the puffins, birds, and other wildlife is an unbelievable experience. The island requires a lot of walking and can be hilly in places. You will also need to be prepared for the weather changing quickly and bring your own food/drink for the day but don't let that put you off as the Wardens and Volunteers do a fantastic job of making your visit memorable.

Loved it ! Ticked off my bucket list to see Puffins . 5 hours spent on the Island . Had a fantastic day . I did not want to leave . Take caution though - we were lucky with the weather . There is no shelter . Take all your supplies including water and lunch . Take your time on the Island and chill . We will most definitely be back . Go ! You waont be disappointed

What a success story this place is. It hosts one of the highest populations of the Atlantic Puffin and they are a sight to behold.
Also, there are plenty of other species here to see, but I think most come to see the Puffin.
Great work by all the volunteers to protect this beautiful place.
I highly recommend a visit, it's a great day out.
Big shout out to Jim who was on the mic on the boat to and from the island. Such a passionate and entertaining guy. Also, a shout out to Maddie who greeted us on the island and spoke very well about the wildlife on the island.
Buy tickets in advance and also, check the best time of year to view the Puffins. I think it's between April and the end of July.
