Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Castle Houska is situated approximately 75 kms north from Prague. It is private historical property open to public. It the past the castle was partly dilapidated, but now it is renovated again. The guided tour on weekends are combined with some historical scenes from the medieval life on the castles (fencing, cooking, dancing). Therefore it is attractive for families with children. I would recommend to combine the trip with walking in the forest aournd the castle or visiting some other castles such as Kokořín or Bezděz.

Located about 2 hours outside of Prague, Houksa Castle (Haud Houska) is a well known paranormal destination. Known for being built to "keep something in" unlike other castles that are built to keep enemies out, this castle is the place that has the "gateway to hell". Please know that you do not have access to the room with the "gateway". Its okay. Just being at the castle is a cool experience in itself. As you arrive, you will be notified that the hosts conduct tours on the hour. You will park and take a fairly long walk to the castle. Before going on your tour, you will have the opportunity to go into a small room where they will illustrate for you how souls were judged and sent into their personal hell. Once in the castle, you will see the courtyard, many room including the room that you can't sleep in without risk of dying within the year and some of the most spectacular views that you will ever see. Have your camera ready. Its stunning. The guides are friendly and the castle is amazing. There is quite a drive to get to it. Additionally, there isn't a lot to do around the castle but for paranormal enthusiasts, it's worth the trip.

We were here in may and it was suprisingly interesting visit. The castle is nice and into are pictures from famous czech painter Peter Herel.
After visit of the castle you can visit unbelieveble space - The Hell, which is near. In the dark place you will see a moving attraction made from wood. Really interesting! If ypu want, you can see it in my fb pages Travellocos.

I visited this castle several times to show visiting friends this interesting and supposedly haunted castle. Last year when I came here, it was truly creepy as it had a room full of "dolls". This room in itself was truly creepy and added to the mystery of this interesting castle. This year they removed the dolls and instead put "old bicycles" in the room instead which is very lame and boring now! Bring back the creepy dolls!!
Overall the castle is interesting but the "doll room" definitely gave an air of creepiness which it lost.
Overall this is a good visit and if you're daring, with special permission, you can stay overnight.
Overall with the creepy doll room I would rank this place a 4-4.5 out of 5, but now only a 3.

It's a lovely little castle in a beautiful countryside. We were quite lucky with our guide, he tried not to be too boring and to make the tour more entertaining. It has nice atmosphere and the views are lovely too. There are clean public toilets and some refreshment available.

I have been invited to this castle for a private birthday celebration at night in December 2015. The foggy weather and the dark night made our car trip to the castle quite scary. Inside the castle you feel the mysticism of the place. Supposedly there is a direct gate to hell and the whole exposition is dedicated to the topic of devils, alchemy and Alighieri´s Inferno. The castle is still under reconstruction. It is famous for private parties, weddings etc. The location is a bit remote, but with beautiful nature and surroundings. Good for bike riding.
