    Great food
14 of us called for drinks on a Saturday afternoon, we sat in the bar enjoying the beer. Food was hot fresh and delicious and good value. The bellypork was amazing large succulent with crispy crackling, the fish, parmo and beef stew were also very good, we did need a little bit more gravy for the dumpling but we're unable to get any unfortunately. Would definitely recommend. Thankyou

Great food great drinks served by lovely staff
Nice village pub with a lovely fire and great atmosphere. The staff team are really welcoming and great with kids. There’s live sport and a pool table. We had a Sunday dinner there was plenty of food and its was delicious the side of cauliflower cheese was amazing as were the Yorkshire’s and mushy peas. The desserts were also nice and a good portion size needless to say we left stuffed. They have premium larger and real ale as well as all the usual stuff and a good selection of none alcoholic drinks including drafts and spirits. Will defiantly returning.

    Homemade Sunday Roast
We are staying in Westgate on holiday and decided to go to The Bay Horse for Sunday Lunch. I viewed the Sunday menu on-line, it seemed very reasonable so I booked a table for 3.00pm. I really fancied the sound of the Local leg of Lamb but when we went to order we were told that the Lamb had all gone. So we both chose to have the Pork. I must say the whole plate of food was homecooked with a lovely choice of fresh vegetables and potatoes. The Yorkshire Pudds were excellent. We ordered a side of Cauliflower cheese, which was a whole cauliflower covered in a good cheese sauce, great value for money. It was served with extra gravy, which was very tasty. The bill came to £38.00 which included 2 drinks. Excellent value for money and very tasty, perfect for a cold, wet, windy Sunday in Weardale!

Fabulous local pub, really made to feel welcome by the landlord, staff and other customers. Dog friendly. Will definitely be back, I believe the Sunday roast is good.

It was melt in the mouth delicious.
Great selection of hot veg, roast potatoes and a big gravy boat full of thick tasty gravy.
Very friendly and efficient service.
Well worth the money.

Booked in here for Sunday lunch and it was lovely. Smashing staff and a good atmosphere. Hearty and tasty food. Two of us had the soup for starters and it was very tasty. We had gammon, belly pork and pork leg, with all the trimmings. Plenty for everyone and amazing gravy. My son sampled a few of the draught beers and enjoyed them all. We made a note to return and try some more. All in all a relaxed, friendly and delicious Sunday lunch. Highly recommended.

More feedback rather than a complaint. This was our 3rd visit with family for Sunday roast. First time ,Amazing but sadly the last two visits have not been same standard.
Slow service. Not much difference in size between small and large dinner to warrant the price difference. My husband doesn't like veg so asked for extra potatoes no veg , two times served with turnip on plate and had to send back and no extra potatoes or mash as a requested. We were willing to pay extra (although potatoe is cheaper than veg) . No salt n pepper on tables and you have to ask for sauces. Such a shame because these minor improvements could make a big difference!

Apologies your last 2 visits have not been up to the standard of the first time you visited. Regarding your last visit unfortunately we had several staff members phone in sick so again apologies service was not up to standard. I will however bring up your feedback to the chef regarding the sizes as you do get extra meat potato turnip extra on a large dinner compared to a small If you have any other concerns please email myself on jtsleisure@gmail.com and I will also offer a discount on your next visit Kind Regards Tom

Visited end of April 2023 and sat in bar. Dog friendly and lovely decor with a lovely log burner.

Tapas for tea and all freshly prepared and really tasty. Very well presented, reasonably priced and very friendly staff

Our favourite part of the trip was the owner's willingness to adapt to our needs. Our room was warm and comfortable and had super towels which was good as we had travelled by train. A further example .. providing porridge which was not part of his breakfast menu and welcoming our son and wife for breakfast. Also providing me with a hair dryer which wasn't included in the room.
I would recommend this stay as worked out better than an Airbnb in the area. Parking outside. Central location for exploring the Weardale. We wish Tom every success in the midst of rising costs. We will stay again when visiting the N. East.
