The historical significance of this lighthouse is huge. I recall the Heritage Canada commercials reenacting the Marconi station and the importance of the lighthouse at Cape Race. Newfoundland is certainly a place of fishermen, lighthouses and the ocean. It’s particularly charming and this place is...More

We arrived in the thickest fog. The foghorn was sounding. We chose to pass on paying the entrance fee. So we were not able to read the display boards. Another lighthouse to add to the list. The drive out was on a horribly rutted road.

If you are up for a somewhat long drive of 20km or so, on a somewhat bumpy gravel road, the lighthouse is scenic and the visitor center has a very nice display on the Titanic and who was on it and who survived with some...More

The 21 km drive on gravel roads was long but when the fog lifted periodically we could see spectacular colorful barrens and rugged coastline with crashing waves. The lighthouse is tall and has one of the most powerful lights in the world. At one point...More

Went out as part of a trip on the Irish Loop for the first time. Went in the off-season so nothing was open, but we knew that before going. The drive in seems to take forever - 12 miles according to the locals. But the...More
