Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was stunned by the sculptures of Aleijadinho in front of the church and also in the six chapels that depict key scenes of the Passion of Christ.
The church is interesting and worth a visit, but the sculptures are a "must" to better undertsand the evolution of Aleijadinho's style nera the end of his life

If you don't appreciate art it may be too much of a hike but aleijadinho's sculptures are a treat for anyone who appreciates these finer things. Take note that on Tuesdays the chapels are closed and thus you can only see the wooden figures through the bars of the door. One word about the state of conservation of the prophets: there are names scratched on the stone of people who thought a good idea to scar one of the treasures of Brazilian art. Really sad. The statues are also outdoors and fully exposed to the weather, maybe they should create a platform to protect them? We need them to last another 200 years!

Twelwe apostles sculpted by Baroque master Aleijadinho make this church a must for any art lover!
As usual in Brazil you have to pay to see the inside and a very strict ban is enforced on taking pictures. The stated reason: visitors help maintain this Unesco site. A plaque outside states that a complete restoration was conducted and paid for...

Passing through Congonhas, we had the opportunity to visit the Basilica of N. Mr. Good Jesus from Matosinhos inside.
We were enchanted with so much grace and beauty of the sculptures, paintings, sculptures and their richness of details.
The church was conceived due to a promise made in the mid-18th century.
Its construction brought together several of the best artists of the time, among them Manoel da Costa Ataide and Aleijadinho.
It could not be different if it became a primary work of religious art.
We had already visited the whole architectural set of the Sanctuary, but we always found the Basilica closed, due to restorations, days and times when it was not open to the public.
It was a grateful and happy surprise!

Amazing place. Fantastic energy and a spectacular view of the city of Congonhas. Take advantage and also discover a small museum hidden behind the Basilica, the museum of ex-votos and Santos de Casa, recognized as one of the most important in Brazil, which goes beyond the materialization of faith, and is configured as a historical, anthropological and artistic from the 17th to the 20th centuries
