Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A quick note. The people who are writing about the paratrooper caught on the steeple are confusing the Eglise in Colleville sur Mer, just up from Omaha Beach with the one in Sainte-Mère-Église, where the troopers from the 101st Airborne landed. The steeple in Sainte-Mère-Église is famous for paratrooper John Steele being caught there, while the steeple in Colleville sur Mer was targeted and smashed by American destroyer fire because it housed German spotters during the beach landing.

Really worth the time it took to see. Was very interesting and the town around the church is a enjoyable walk and site seeing. Across the street from the museum. The church is well maintained and very clean.

The church wasn't on our itinerary, but driving past it we just had to stop. A large photo outside the church shows the damage to the church caused by the fighting on D-Day and the rebuilt church demonstrates the resilience and faith of people.

This location needs to be experienced to actually see the paratrooper hanging from the steeple. The fact that this person survived is even more incredible. A must stop on your visit to Normandy.

John Steel was a US paratrooper who during the D Day invasion landed on the church steeple his rigging got caught he was shot in the foot so played dead for a while before the Germans took him prisoner he later escaped and joined his unit.

The model of the paratrooper John Steel is a fixture on top of the Church. He was made an honourary citizen of the town and after the war made many trips back... a lovely church and small town plenty to see nice cafes and bars nice stopping point pick the D514 back up and travel to the American war graves, Pont Du Rock, Arrowmanche, Omaha, Gold, Sword and Juno beach. The church was like many in the area however its role in the D-Day invasion is a fantastic story. The little square is absolutely fantastic. We walked the little village and stopped in a local bakery and sampled the bread and pastries. Well worth a stop and visit.

This church is located just up the road from the Big Red One museum. There is a small turnout across from the church in which to park. There is a banner out front that shows what this church endured during the war. We were unable to enter as all doors were locked but were able to walk around the grounds and take a few photos. In addition, a very large cemetery surrounds the church.

Driving past and had to stop just to check out the huge banners ! I think they are leftovers from the 70th Celebrations (2014) but the Church itself is worth a quick look over ! Amazing to see the damage it suffered during the landings but rebuilt and still standing & serving today.

We visited the Church as you pass it on the way to the American Cemetery. Other than a "banner" with a description of the Church you will have to do on-line research to get a full understanding of its history and how it suffered during WWII and the invasion. Your visit will be self guided, but you will have uninterrupted time to look at the Church and grounds at your own pace.
