A short boat ride takes you to this very peaceful place with some simple ruins. Good photographic opportunities. Our visit was at the end of July and the midges were man eaters, even through clothing. We had very stupidly left our repellent and head nets...More

Great trip out to this location, extremely friendly guide with a good knowledge of the history. The trip included a visit to a research farm which added to the day.

It's a beautiful setting. Get there early while the water is still flat and the tour boats from Qaqortoq have arrived. Photo ops abound if you can keep the mosquitos at bay. Definitely worth the 20 min boat ride.

The ruins are interesting if you are "into" that sort of thing. It is certainly not worth a trip to Greenland just to see these.

A trip to Hvalsey church is well worth the effort. The ruin itself may not be as impressive as buildings of similar age in Europe, but this is more than made up for by its stunning location at the end of a fjord. Its a...More

Few buildings remain from the Viking area so the ruins of Hvalsey Church and its associated farmstead are important from a historical perspective. To reach Hvalsey requires a boat trip of about 30 minutes from Qaqortoq. I was fortunate enough to be one of a...More

My wife & I visited 8/20 as part of a North Atlantic cruise. Fortunately, we had a speedy zodiac to reach the ruins from the town plus a very knowledgeable guide who is an expert/professor on the subject of the Vikings/Norse. Getting to the ruins...More
