This sacred site is one of many around the world that seeks to connect an agricultural society with the seasons. The east-west stones helped determine when to plant and when to harvest. A tomb on the property gives some insight into burial customs, too.

It would have been difficult to understand the significance of the stone calendar system without a guide. I hadn’t thought about that the distance the sun travels through the year is short due to the distance from the equator. The guide reminded us that the...More

The onsight guide was very informative (Spanish speaking only but our guide spoke excellent English). Informative and interesting location to visit as part of your tour of the area and gave some insight in to Muisca civilisation

Lots of history and great concept of astronomy - but is hard to find, definitely have to drive/taxi. Shame not many people reach it as the countryside around is amazing, and other cool dinosaur museums round the corner.

Worth a visit, but do it based on a cycle tour and with a guide. We had a guide and he spent around an hour explaining the history and significance of the site. We looked at the tomb used for human offerings too, it's on...More

I consider myself an archaeologist, but there is no way I could ever recommend this place. Far away from the town, nothing useful to do around it, and even though it is cheap (7000 pesos, December/2015), you can see the whole place in less than...More

Well worth a visit - ancient sun clock and sacred place of the Muisca's precolombian culture. Like the his a boat in the Gold Museum in Bogotá, and other remains, it is quite humbling to wonder at what they have left behind. Giant stone phalli...More

This place is just a display of phallic symbols of all sizes which can make a few of you smile. However, the excellent explanation by the guide will reveal much more about the culture and the intelligence of the ancient Muiscas.
