Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unfortunately August is just too dry a month to get the full splendour of this garden. Seeing photos of the Spring though I would love to come in visit in April or May. Such colours everywhere, compared to the grey and browns on our visit. Still worth a little wander around though and to see the peacocks and terrapins enjoying the shade provided by the huge trees. We were even shown a tree over 500 years old! It was HUGE!

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Malta staying at the impressive Corinthia Palace Hotel (Review to follow) and just across the road are the San Anton Gardens which we visited this morning.

It’s clearly a very popular attraction as - although it was a Sunday morning - there were plenty of other people either with their children (there is no shortage of wildlife to see) or walking their dogs.

There is no entry charge and the Gardens themselves are full of plants, shrubs and trees from around the world and there are plenty of empty buildings reminding the visitor of what things must have been like in its heyday! Even so, it’s still a very pleasant place to spend an hour or so - something I suspect we’ll be doing several more times during the rest of our stay!

Beautiful walled garden. Divided into lots of different areas. Some unusual trees and plants (luckily labelled). Lots of pathways leading to fountains, statues or buildings.

Amazing colours and botanical plants.
Turtles in the fountain, wander peacock.

Highly recommend. You will need more than an hour if you use the hop on hop off bus.

We visited in the spring, just before the main burst of flowers. The variety of plant life is very good and the peace within the garden is relaxing. I agree, seeing the birds in the so called aviary wasn’t pleasant nor humane. I hope this has been addressed by now. Otherwise they are tired and slowly deteriorating gardens, but it adds ambiance of colonial rule. Overall I enjoyed the casual feel of the gardens.

A place to find shade in a lovely setting. Peacocks and ducks and pigeons. Plenty of seating under tall trees. Spent the morning there. Bus 54 from Valletta gets you within 5 minutes walk of the garden

We were trying to find it by public transport, I used google maps, but it wasn't so easy to find. Some tips, how to find it easier. From Valletta bus station, going to platform Valletta C3 and taking bus number 54, going out on Pastur stop.
I hoped it would be bigger, but the walking around was calming. Birds walking around without fence. Fountains, I lije fointains alot.
On territory there is toilet.

The Anton Gardens are a splendid site to go visit, when you're in Naxxar. I had originally planned to see the palace, as well; but the President was in residence (no warning!)

These walled gardens, seal you off from the rest of the world.
They give you a relaxing break, from the hussle & bussle of everyday life. There's not just one fountain, but several imnaculately placed. With turtles, geese, hens, and peacocks galore. There's even a maze; not fully grown yet, but amazing to look at.

The San Anton Gardens provide a gorgeous display of mediterranean and tropical plants in a tidy setting. You‘ll be able to make great photos of those beautiful flowers (frangipani etc.), and the different shades of greens of the trees in the alleys are nice too.

Lovely walled garden with lots of sections, statues, fountains and other points of interest. A little run down in places but definitely worth a visit. There’s a maze to walk through as well. The footpaths are all pretty broken up so keep an eye on your feet while walking.

The gardens were built by a grandmaster of the Knights of St John. It is noteworthy for having a variety of trees from around the world. March is likely not the best time to tour the gardens. Not many flowers are planted. There are several water fountains. The birdlife is interesting with peacocks and a black swan [the mother was sitting on eggs]. There are turtles. You can meander through a small maze, There is even a model of a Japanese temple.
