- O Wise OneRoyal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom21 contributionsGreat little findLovely little gem - clean and well maintained outdoor pool and very civilised atmosphere, we dropped in on this place on spec and couldn’t believe what a find this was! Of course it helped that the weather was so nice. Recommended.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 August 2023

The cost is not too bad, especially if you use all the allotted time of the session. Pool is heated which is nice on colder days. A few seats/pool loungers available for spectaculars (or rests) Lockers for storage of personal items, out door showers and changing huts available too.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 August 2023

The first night was quiet, the pool was clean, staff were welcoming, chatty and looked to be busy cleaning and packing up the area. I came away wishing we had something similar closer to home! The second day, due to a bad patch of weather I decided to call and double check if they were open, and the young lady who answered the phone was so rude, and actually said “I can’t see into the future to know the weather when you’re due to be in the pool!!” I chose not to go to the pool after being spoken to that way - very poor customer service, you can answer questions without being rude! - even if to you it’s a silly question, you’re paid to answer and be polite!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 August 2023

- Norfolk diner .Dereham, United Kingdom33 contributionsDreamy summer swimming .We have enjoyed another fabulous outdoor lane swimming season at Beccles lido this year . Living in Dereham, it’s quite a trek for us, but so worth the effort . Booking is easy and the nice double lanes mean that it’s easy to accommodate swimmers of different speeds . Entry is so reasonably priced , the water is clean and warm and changing facilities are excellent . One of our favourite summer spots as a family. Please support it and keep it going .Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 October 2023

We came as a family with 2 teenagers and a toddler. The main pool was clean and appeared well looked after. The toddler pool not so much.
It was busy but totally what I expected for a lovely day in the school holidays.
The changing rooms appeared clean, we didn’t stop for the full session so had no problem accessing them but I can imagine at the end of a session it being a nightmare to get changed.
I had my PDF ready for when I walked in but the young man that served me didn’t say anything at all. Literally nothing.
All in all we had a really lovely afternoon swim.

Very well kept and managed and such an unusual find these days. We chose a the inflatable session and booked the first available (Tues for Sat). For August we were delighted to get a slot at all.
Plenty of staff and all lifeguards very attentive.
Plan your parking as although there are approximately 12 spaces on site and another free of charge 30 or so spaces nearby they fill quickly.

We were staying in the area for a long weekend so thought we’d experience the Lido as we don’t have one anywhere near where we live.
We booked online 15 minutes before our 3.30pm slot with ease.
Impressed with the lido itself. Warm outside (only) showers and free use of hair dryer afterwards.
Only negatives were the poor customer service offered by the ticket office staff. Very unhelpful with no sense of humour. Plus there were older children (8 years+) in the toddler pool and some under who were not being supervised in the pool (as advised as there are no lifeguards watching the toddler pool) and they were messing around splashing etc whilst my non-swimmer young child was trying to actually swim. There seem to be no staff watching to advise the kids to leave the toddler pool or ask their parents to join them in the toddler pool as advised.

Wonderful community facility, but sadly a human soup when visiting with my 6 year old son on Saturday at 3.30.
The pool was too busy, and was not a pleasant experience. People walking around with wristbands from previous sessions who had not left, continuing to swim.
You have to book in advance online, so no reason not to have a handle on the footfall.
Hopefully this can be looked at.

We went to the Lido whilst on holiday. It was extremely busy, there were not enough seats for everyone. We expected the pool to be bigger than it was. Myself and my son did go in the pool but you couldn’t swim as the pool was full. My partner did not bother to go in the pool as it was full. We only stayed for 45 minutes.

Will you be opening in the winter?

Hmmm what a good question - we never did before but we know a Lido that does - just for one morning each weekend without heating - so their pool gets gradually colder until they can have an ice swimming gala at Xmas (under 5 degrees C) and Xmas Day and News Year Day swims - what would be the demand I wonder...

How long can you spend at the pool at any one time
Shaun C
Beccles, UK1 contribution
when you get in you can stay as long as you like - if we are busy we operate a band system and you may be called out of the pool (usually for 20 mins out/40 mins in) but when you are out you can still stay on site HOWEVER please understand that in the current heatwave we are VERY busy and we have had queues every day this week - please always check our Facebook site for updates during each day

seeing as this is an outdoor pool is this Salt water or heavily chlorinated instead as I'm looking for a salt water pool as my family and I are allergic to chlorine. thanks in advance

Beccles Lido is chlorinated, but because it is outside it is much less noticeable, cheers

Is there places to sit or do we need to bring chairs.
Do you have places to eat or do we need picnic
Shaun C
Beccles, UK1 contribution
yes we have picnic tables, tables & chairs and sunloungers - although you need to be there super early if we are super busy! and we have a café selling hot & cold snacks. But you are also very welcome to bring your own chairs & picnic

Are the pools heated as my daughter is 2 and loves swimming but hates the cold
Shaun C
Beccles, UK1 contribution
Yes Nigel, the main pool, toddler pool and paddle pool are all heated to 27/28C - this sounds lower than some indoor pools but in fact generally feels warmer (something to do with being outdoors) and rarely any complaints. We re-open end May bank holiday weekend (27-May), rgds Shaun
