About
Take your chance and get of the beaten path. Together with the donkeys ladies Grisella, Wiolätta, Dixie and Louise you can discover the beauty and history of Kefalonia the traditional way. Enjoy amazing views over the bay of Sami, evergreen valleys of the area and dive into the history of the island. Let the donkeys slow you down! No matter if you are 2 years old or 99! Waterbottles supplies and tired little legs will be carried by the donkey. Please be aware that we want to keep our donkeys healthy and save so they are not carrying kids/adults with more than 50kg/8stones.

We took a one hour trek with Katerina and her beautiful donkeys. It was one of the highlights of our trip and we would highly recommend it whether you are travelling with children or without. Our two boys (aged 8 and 2) loved meeting and grooming the donkeys and then they both rode the donkeys during the trek. (Helmets and specialist donkey saddles all provided) It gets a little steep and rocky in places, no problem for us walking and the 8 year old managed to ride with no problems. Our fidgety 2 year old decided he wanted to get off after a while so we carried him in a carry backpack over the rockier/steeper terrain. It was probably the safest/easiest option, but he loved holding the donkey when he wasn’t riding.
The scenery (driving to the stable as well as the walk itself) is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking at times. Katherina clearly cares greatly for the animals as they are extremely well looked after.
Katherina has a toilet on site which was handy and we were able to wash hands etc after the trek.
On the way home we stopped at Dimitroula’s Restaurant which is a few minutes drive away, we ate a lovely meal watching the sunset over the mountains under the olive trees! Thanks for a great experience Katherina

The most heart-warming about the Donkey Trekking in Kefalonia is Katharina’s attitude towards the donkeys, as well as the other animals there. The donkeys aren’t just working animals, used for making money. The „Ladies“ are clearly very loved and cared for, every one of them with own personality and funny quirks. Their wellbeing is the priority as it should be.
Two super-friendly dogs add their own bit to the lovely atmosphere (I even contemplated not going trekking and instead stay behind to pet the dog when she sat on my foot and looked up at me with her puppy-eyes as if saying “how on earth can you leave me now??” 😊) and let’s not forget the tiny black kitten.
The trek was super – we got to see the island from different perspective. The kids loved the ride and to groom and feed the donkeys. Katharina was fountain of information about the history and flora of the island. She also gave us useful hints about places to visit, best beaches and tavernas.

Couldn’t recommend the donkey trek enough. Katharina was very attentive, informative and extremely passionate about her job, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

All the animals were very lovely as well, and easy to look after.

If you are looking for a great activity whilst visiting the island of Kefalonia, I would highly advise you book this up!

A fabulous morning with the donkeys with my two grandchildren. Meeting all the donkeys and the children grooming Dixie and Violetta the donkeys they were due to ride. The dogs and cats gave us a great welcome too. My 8 yr old rode her donkey and the younger child led her donkey. Katharina gave expert tuition all the way and we loved and felt her passion for the donkeys too.Grandparents and Dad accompanied the kids and we went through some of the most beautiful scenery on the island. Win, win situation everyone happy. Children said it was their best day of the holiday

This was so much more than I expected, it's not just jumping on the donkey and walking a standard path. We took our 9yr old son, who is nervous around horses, and our 7yr old daughter who dreams of riding lessons. None of us knew much about donkeys. Katharina had an amazing way with the children, gently leading each of them at their own pace getting comfortable around the animals and building their confidence up as they got their own donkeys ready for the ride, started on lead and progressed to handling the reigns later in the ride. When we came back the children helped take off the saddles, brush down the donkeys and feed them. It was very unrushed and informative and both children were so proud of themselves. We adults loved the stories on the walk, history of the area and discovering local plants. We hope to go back again next year for a longer walk with Katharina!

Had a wonderful trek with Katharina and her lovely donkeys, Wioletta and Dixie. Both my partner and I being well above the maximum ride weight ( and then some) booked a trip to lead the donkeys on a trek to the Drogarati Cave. We spent the first half an hour grooming the donkeys and getting to know them...and them getting to know us. The welfare of her ladies is paramount to Katharina, which was lovely to see. The trek itself was fantastic, enhanced by Katharina's knowledge of the local history, flora and fauna. As a resut we got to see and learn about bits of Kefalonia that we would have completely missed. Seriously, if you like animals and walking in gorgeous countryside this is a great way to spend time on the island. If you have kids, use them as an excuse (they will love it!) and if not, just book it for yourself anyway!

We had a fantastic time meeting the donkeys, as well as the rest of the menagerie! (Dogs, cats, chickens...).

Loved that the kids were encouraged to groom and ready the donkeys for their trek through the beautiful Kefalonian hills. The animals are loved and clearly very well looked after.

Remember to take plenty of water and a camera, it’s a great activity for the kids who - if they’re anything like ours - will really enjoy learning about and riding these characterful animals.

I took my two children (11 and 13 years) to the donkey trekking. Only my 11 year old was able to ride a donkey, due to weight restriction, but we knew this before we booked.
We all had a lovely time with Katarina, who taught the children about donkeys (their care and characteristics) in a fun and down-to-earth manner. Katarina is aslo very knowledgeable about the island and we all enjoyed the trek.
My 13 year old got to lead the retired donkey, as she was too big to ride one, which she enjoyed very much.
I would highly recommend the donkey trek. It was lovely trekking and seeing a different part of the island than the beach and water :)

Our experience riding the donkey with our two-year-old boy in Kefalonia was absolutely amazing from start to finish. We were treated to a lovely tour of a village, exploring the derelict ruins of an old town, which was both fascinating and picturesque.

The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, providing us with interesting insights about the area. Most importantly, our little boy absolutely loved the experience, which made it even more special for us.

We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kefalonia, especially families with young children. It was a memorable and delightful experience for all of us.

What a fun day for my husband and I and our two boys (7 & 8). Katherina was.a pleasure to have as our guide, teaching us about donkeys and the island. She was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We started off getting to clean and saddle the donkeys and then went on a lovely hike with the donkeys. The boys rode them while my husband and I led them. The boys had such a blast and it was even a fun little adventure for my husband and I to pull the donkeys along. There were other animals that we got to play with - dogs, cats, and even a tortoise. All the animals were super friendly and we loved giving them loads of attention. All in all, it was a great day and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone, especially families with children.
