Mahakal Temple and corridor is divine and worth seeing. The experience was divine and heavenly. hen did the Mahakala temple first come in existence, is difficult to tell. However, the event may be assigned to the Pre-historic period. Puranas narrate that it was first established by Prajapita Brahma. There is reference to the appointment of prince Kumarasena by king Chanda Pradyota in 6th c. BC for looking after the law and order situations of Mahakala temple. The punch-marked coins of Ujjain, belonging to 4th-3rd c. BC, bear the figure of Lord Siva on them.

No words in the world can describe the experience we have in this temple. We are perhaps not even eligible to review the temple. One need to go there to experience the sacredness of Shri Mahakal mandir. It is one of the 12 Jyortilings in India. Take the VIP pass if you want to save the time of standing in queue.

    Jai Shri Baba Mahakal
I can't adequately describe the experience in words. I'm not reviewing the temple; I'm simply sharing my profound experience. Mahakal is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and has blessed me with the opportunity to witness Shri Baba Mahakal twice. This time, I also visited Omkareshwar, which I had skipped on my previous visit. The icing on the cake is the newly-built corridor, offering a completely different experience at night under the lights. The temple boasts excellent crowd management, ensuring you can have darshan of Shri Baba Mahakal within 30-45 minutes. For those seeking a VIP experience, there is a special darshan available for a charge of INR 250. When you lay eyes on Baba Mahakal, you feel a divine energy that is truly incredible. I hope that soon, Baba Mahakal calls me again for another darshan.

    Divine, unhindered darshan experience
Mahakal corridor is huge and very well maintained. There is a buggy service if required for those who can't walk all through the corridor to reach the main temple. Temple services are excellently managed with no middle men / pundits bothering the devotees. There is a VIP darshan counter where one can pay Rs.250.00 per head and buy Sheegra Darshan tickets. This entitles the devotees to have smooth darshan and come out within 30 min. Prasad can be bought from the authorised counters within the complex.

Divine place full of positive energy.......Beware of money seekers
I had visited this divine place with my father on 18th Dec 2023. To avoid crowd we purchased VIP entry ticket (of Rs 250 each person) but the administration is concerned only to charge fees. No body cares for service and proper management. Even the pujair's & panda's push you for moving and don't allow you to worship for a minute. They try their best to extract money from you....... So avoid everybody asking money and forcefully stay in darshan hall and complete your prayer.

    Divine Place. Tips to visit.
This is an amazing place. The original temple is finely preserved and the sprawling new corridor is a masterpiece. There are several gates to enter. The ones through the new corridor will involve a good amount of walking on legs to reach the main temple. Gate # 1 is the "Shighra darshan" entry gate (note that it shigra darshan is ticket based for Rs. 250. Tickets can be booked online or purchased at the counter right outside gate # 1. 3 wheeler can drop pretty close to gate # 1. Shighra darshan is definitely beneficial for senior citizens as it involves less walking and waiting. The lines of Shighra darshan and regular darshan however eventually merge near to the main shrine. The other key thing to do is bhasma aarti, which happens early in the morning around 4 AM. This has very limited tickets and tickets can be booked online. Tickets open up 14 days in advance and are gone as soon as they open around 8 AM everyday. There are pandits and agents locally that will offer you deals for Rs 4000+ for bhasma aarti but don't fall for them. Plenty of hotels around. We stayed at Hotel Imperial Grand. Very good hotel , 15 mins walk to temple. Some pictures attached for corridor. Must visit place.

    Divinely Blessed!
Once Mahakal calls,I believe the energy to complete the darshan gracefully becomes the only motive! One hardly remembers anything worldly, when infront of him. He is beyond and above all. It shall remain an incomparable moment of our lives, ever!

    Shigra darshan tickets recommended
We visited Mahakaleshwar temple during monsoons where we had booked Shigra darshan tickets in advance through their online website. However had to spend time in line to collect physical tickets which would recommend you to take printouts as mobile devices are submitted in the counter. The shigra darshan allowed us to skip lines and do the darshan from very up close and is highly recommended. Don’t forget to buy parshad from counters outside after darshan.

    Jai Mahakal ji
    1. We flew by early morning flight(5.45am departure) from Delhi to Indore airport and directly took a cab first to Omkareshwar & Mamleshwar which is about 4-5 hours away. 2. Then we returned to Ujjain by evening and went for Darshan at midnight to wait for our turn in the queue. We had to go so early as we wanted to have Darshan of the Bhasma Arti. 3. We had brought the Holy water from the River Narmada in Omkareshwar and were fortunately the Main Pujari agreed to put it in his kalash for the Abhishek as general public is not allowed in the main garbh grah during the time of Bhasma arti in the Saawan month. 4. We sat at a distance but mostly were watching the puja on the tv screen only. 5. There's no dress code as such but just be decent in your choice. 6. Phones were allowed in the temple but keep in pocket. 7. The mandir compound is huge and Prasad boxes are available in the temple at a price. 8. Advance booking online is always advisable for smooth Darshan. 9. We stayed at the Anushree hotel in Ujjain which is about 4-5 kms from the temple.

The Mahakaleshwar temple at Ujjain is a very famous and revered shrine of the lord Shiva,

It is one the important jyotirlingas for Hindus and amongst the most important temples of Lord Shiva,

It is considered no less then a pilgrimage to visit the temple once in your life,

The temple complex is huge and allows devotees to see the Shiva Linga from the outside for most of the time and entry in the main Jyotirlinga area is restricted most of the time,

In case u want to get a Darshan or the main linga then u can ask any of the umpteen Panditji around and they will help u do an Abhishek for a price, this darshan is given till 15:00 hours only.

Anyone who goes in the main Jyotirling area needs to wear a dhoti and go there, the pandits arrange for that too,

The temple complex is like a very well run machinery as it has lockers for mobile phones which are not allowed in the temple area,

There is also a VIP darshan counter which charges you Rs. 250 for a fast Darshan, people in hurry should opt for this.

The entire feel of the temple is of course divine, it’s calming too and after u are through with the Darshan u are happy and calm for a lot of time.

For a true lord shiva devotee this is a must do.

I have also included a pic of the importance of the temple for everyone’s benefit - do read it .

This temple is located about 2 Kms from Ujjain railway station and 4 kms from Nanakheda bus stand. Buses coming from Indore terminates at Nanakheda bus stand. Autos charge Rs 50 from Ujjain railway station to this temple and Rs 80 is the auto charge from Nanakheda bus stand to this temple.

From the place where autos stop this temple entry is about five minutes walk. At present after covid temple administration has made a new rule where people visiting temple must enter names in a temple app and the SMS received after entering details of devotees must be shown to the security guards who are there at entry of the temple. If one person downloads the app he can enter other visitors details too. The details to be entered in app are name, address and any one number of government issued identity card. There is no need to show original identity card at the entrance.

We went to temple at about 5 Pm on a Wednesday and the there were no crowds at all,we could pray in front of the lord for as much time as we wanted. There are many small temples within the temple compound . We did not go for basmarti . The laddu prasadam which is sold inside temple compound is tasty and should not be missed. There is a place to keep footwear near entrance of the temple so do not keep footwear's at shops which are near the temple.

Near the exit/entry of temple there is a place where free herbal tea is given . Do have it , its very good. At the same place they sell herbal tea powder .

Maa harishidhi temple is about 15 minutes walk from this temple.

Hello guys, me and my family members decided to visit mahakaleshwar temple on Sunday. We were 4 members and worried about transportation as sunday is a rush day. So after a little google search, i found a cab service named "goto cabs", i called them just like a professional mnc they picked up my call and greeted me. They assisted me with all my ujjain tour plan and not just limited to cab. Cab and driver was same as they promised, neat, clean well dressed and gentlemen. Our driver "Sudarshan" was just like a guide for us. He made our ujjain tour memorable. Never felt like out of our family member. I and my family became a regular user of gotocabs. Ya gotocabs also has a mobile app to book the cabs in local city and outstation.

The BHASMARTI at Mahakaal Ujjaini, our experience
We were told that being at the gate early ensures better seating for the arati. So, reached the gate by 12:30 am. Screening started at around 01:00 am and allowed into a small waiting area with barricades (about 200 capacity). As people coming inside were asked to make way and by 03:00 am nearly about 800 people assembled in the small waiting area. Nice experience of each one breathing over the other. At close to 04:00 am all the barricades are opened and all the 800 people were allowed at once. The Arati viewing gallery is about 200 meters from the waiting area. Younger devotees took to sprinting a hurdle race to reach the viewing gallery (Hurdles are the older/handicapped who could not run). The older people also ran in their mind but trying a hard faster hurdle walking race (hurdles are the sprinting younger ones -trying to avoid). It was a nice scene to behold a multi faceted race at 04:00 am in the morning. At the viewing gallery, now starts pushing and prodding to get the glimpse of Mahakaal so that they can actually see the arti. Direct viewing opportunity is for about 150 devotees only. Rest of them have to watch it on virtual screen in front of the Garbhagudi. By the time arti starts by about 04:15 am every one settles to watch on the screen. After the arati one can have close darshan of Mahakaal and that is the only solace, (having lost the whole noght sleep). This is the factual process. Those who are planning to visit can have a good information

One of the twelve jyotirlingas.
We had darshan on a Monday afternoon and then again next morning (within 30 minutes), it was great and quite quick considering the crowd.
Darshan were great as they allow you to enter garbhagriha itself.
Complex was big (further construction work was going on possibly extending it even further).
The complex houses multiple temples, we could find the temples with same name outside in the city, so possibly the plan is to relocate and reestablish all old temples within the complex itself.
Complex was clean and well managed.
Expect more crowd on Mondays resulting in longer queues and more time for darshan.

Had great darshan, it was a good experience. Would like to come back again.

I reached ujjain from omkareshwar via private bus , in madya pradesh no government buses , it took around 4 hours journey. Lot of dharmashala is there but we stayed in bharath mata mandir bhakth nivas, usually online booking happens but we were so lucky and they provided room with sharing toilet and bathroom for 500rs and we started evening 5 to go for few places to visit like sandipini ashram, kalabhirav mandir , gadkali Maa, raja batruhari guha auto took 400 rs to show all these for 2persons but it can be cheaper also. Night we went to one of the shakti peeta harsiddi mata in ujjain and took darshana and than visited mahakal temple got aatari at 9pm , took darshan before 8 and enter the temple queue at 9 pm so u ll get chance of aarati one of the local person helped me by telling we should enter ta 9 pm. For bhasma aarti atv4 am book in online we don't get chance but was awesome.

There is good system and flow of the people. there is paid ticket of Rs 250/- per person for quick darshan line. the cleanliness was very good. I had visited earlier in 2011, but overall systems and cleanliness has been better at least 100 times better.
large bags, etc are not allowed. Mobiles are allowed but photos & videos not allowed. drinking water facility is available inside the premises at suitable distances.
normally between 11 am to 2 pm rush is high and crowded.
i would recommend to carry cap for aged people. the walkway is carpeted throughout and that is very good thing that the administration has done

Visiting the Mahakaleshwar Temple was a truly special and powerful experience. The temple's ancient architecture, adorned with intricate carvings, adds to its grandeur. Participating in the rituals, particularly the renowned "Bhasma Aarti" (offering of sacred ash), elevates the experience, leaving you feeling blessed and spiritually uplifted. The temple’s serene atmosphere and the profound presence of Lord Shiva make it a must-visit for all devotees. The management efficiently organizes darshan with well-structured queues, ensuring a smooth visit, and the temple complex is clean and well-maintained. However, it can get quite crowded during peak hours.

I visited the Ujjain Mahakal Temple last week, and it was a delightful experience. There are special darshan options available for a hassle-free visit, priced at ₹250 per person. There’s also a designated area to store your mobile phones and shoes; you'll need to present your special darshan ticket when using this service. Since I visited on a working day, the crowd was manageable. The temple corridor offers a lot to explore, and if you purchase prasad, remember to bring cloth carry bags, as they do not provide plastic covers.

No words to describe the religiousness spread in the entire environment. So very well managed by the Trust, Prasad shops and Flowers shop etc are reasonable and they don't cheat you just bcoz u r a Bhakt/Tourist. There is predefined price for the kind of puja one want to offer to Lord Shiva. However this is as per individual's faith to hire a priest for puja or do darshan on his own.
Female family members need to wear sari and male to wear dhoti for visiting the garbh grah for close darshan of Lord Mahakal, u can buy these or even rent them just outside the temple.
Jai Mahakal!!!
