- Ann HYork, United Kingdom2,464 contributionsWell worth a visitA beautiful part of the world with stunning views across the heath and walks to the beach. We parked in the NT car park and wandered for a while before enjoying a coffee and snack in the cafe. There is a shop and toilets as well and definitely worth a stop if in the area.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 April 2023
- Alan RNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom39 contributionsGreat place to walk and see wildlifeExcellent walks and wildlife. Choice of walks across the heath-easy walking. Managed to see Dartford warbler (briefly), nightingale in full song, stone curlew and red and Muntjac deer. Likely to be even better in a few weeks!Visited April 2023Written 27 April 2023

National Trust staff very helpful with parking and walking trails. We admired the seashore then walked around the Heath. - Adrian SBerkshire, United Kingdom167 contributionsBeach, heath, marsh and woodland!Fabulous views from the beach and the edge of the heath. The heather on the heath was stunning, despite about 60% of it being lost in the drought last year. We walked the dog on the beach, then along the ditch between Minsmere and the Heath back up onto the heath through the woodland. Stunning.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 30 August 2023
- Veronica H116 contributionsRelaxing visit in glorious sunshineLovely peaceful spot. Walks inland and along the coast. Not NT members so prepared to pay to park. However the helpful lady in the hut let us off as we had less than 2 hours to look round before the place closed. Decent loos too. Longer would have been nice but 1 of us can't walk very far so probably OK as it was.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 September 2023
- RJK-travellerWarwick, United Kingdom177 contributionsLovely unspoilt place to walkWhat a beautiful unspoilt place to go for a walk. There are three very well marked trails of different lengths, which take different routes through the heathland. Even though land was very wet when we were there, the route we took was still fine. It's dog friendly too, with dog bins provided. There is a tearoom on site, but check for opening.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 January 2024

Dunwich Heath and Beach never fail to please. From nature and beach walks to special events. My favorite time is August when the heather is out and the sea is warm.

Fantastic location, great facilities at National trust cafe and coast guard lookout. Nice beach, low tide gives you sand, and a long decent walk in either direction.

Lovely pebble beach and beautiful views. Such walks and they give you maps so you can follow various routes. There’s a tearoom too and dogs are welcome - even on the beach.

Is this a reasonable spot to swim from - e.g. any strong currents to watch out for
Martin H
Stockport, UK675 contributions
Going to answer my own question having just got back. yes it is fine to swim from if a bit stony & relatively sloping. Young children would need watching. High & Low tide marks are realtively close to each other

When is the Heather in bloom?

Usually in the Lake District and on the Lancashire moors it is September through to October, I would guess given a week or so it should be around the same time.
