A lovely temple in the midst of Old Darkhan. It's lovely to just step into for a prayer and a meditative moment. Feed the pigeons, spin the prayer wheels, an stop in for a service.

I work very close to Kharagiin Khiid, so I found it on one of my lunch breaks and keep going back there for the peace in the garden.

Kharagiin Khiid is a functioning Buddhist monastery in the middle of Old Darkhan, on one of the main streets running through this district. It is a short walk from the #18 share-taxi stop (arron-naim), and across from the Modern Nomads restaurant.

The times that I have gone to the monastery have varied, but it's always a little busy with people coming and going, and young monks-in-training wandering around the small grounds. There are some nice little grassy spots where, in summer, you can quietly sit and read.

It's not a key pilgrimage site, however it is a beautiful place to visit if you have a little time to kill in Darkhan. It's quite close to the train station, maybe 10 minutes walk, so if you're stopping to change trains then you can give it a try. If you choose to catch a taxi from the station, just say the name of the monastery, and it will cost you around 1000 tugs. There is no entry cost to the monastery grounds and there are two entrances, one down the side near the hospital and school #16, or on the main road.
