Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went on a small group (3 people) tour arranged through C-Trip. We changed to a private bus at the entrance of the scenic area and walked around the area. We went down to the bottom of the canyon and then came back to the starting point using ladders. It was quite tiring.

You can take a bus from the west bus station at 9:45 about CNY 15 but not positive and it will drop you at the park entrance. The return bus leaves between 16:00 and 16:30 but whatever time it is, you will have plenty of time in the park. We did the main bus/walking tour although they have a new part for over CNY 300 they tried to sell us. The food stalls near the park entrance were well priced and we had a nice lunch before entering. The park is amazing and I highly recommend!

Smaller scale version of Colorado, this canyon is located about 60 km north east of Zhangye. It is a relatively new attraction as there are fewer visitors. To fully appreciate the scenery, you need to go down into the canyon rather than looking it from the top.

Compared to the Danxia mountains, this area only takes half that time to cover (1.5 hours). Make sure to go dow to the canyon floor to experience the valley! theres a cat ladder course that will take u back to the surface again, offering a little difference experience to the alternative roundabout way to return to the road levels. Overall a good experience. We hired a taxi (4 of us) and the driver took us to Binggou Daxia / Qicai Daxia / Pingshan Canyon for under RMB600. We saved all the time we could, for Qicai Danxia, which took us 4hours.
This is one of the must-see attractions in this region.

We hiked down into the canyon and it was unbelievable. It just kept going and going. We took the ladder exit which was a bit scary, but ultimately felt rewarded once we completed the hike. It exceeded my expectations! Must do if your here to see Rainbow Mountains.

If you are not a hiker, you wont see much. We had a great time going down to the bottom and explore the canyon. Yes, there are many stairs, but you don't need to run.... I am 68 yrs young and had no problems whatsoever. There are still only a few visitors around and the constructions are ongoing. There will be more and more to be explored as the work progresses. Take food/water along. We took a taxi from Zhangye and the taxi waited to bring us back in the afternoon. A nice 3/4 of a day outing.

This was a great place to go, and was a very different kind of landscape to the Danxia Rainbow mountains, which do not seem to be mentioned on tripadvisor, and May be conflated with these ones. Many people go on a day tour to see both landscape areas, but only do this if you are in a rush.
Whereas in the rainbow mountains you are in the thick of the beauty, you start here floating above a landscape far below you, and it is mesmerising. There are a range of colours and shapes, mesas, escarpments, towers of stone and jagged layers of rock plummeting down into narrow canyons. Having enjoyed the scenery from above, you descend into one of the canyons through steep sections of steps and ladders, before squeezing through some tight spaces, as well as climbing two vertical 20m ladders to make it up one of the chutes. It sounds scary and strenuous, but antobe with moderate Fitness will find it fine.
It took a comfortable 3 hours or so to enjoy the view s and do the walk.
There is a 0945 bus from the west bus station that will do you off at the site at 1100 and pick you up again at 1630. We twiddled our thumbs a bit for an hour, but you could easily extend the walk in the park, or enjoy all the new facilities they are building outside the park. A taxi would cost between 200 and 300 for a return trip, depending on your bargaining skills.
It was 100rmb per adult to enter, and 30rmb for a return 25 minute bus ride from the gate to the main park itself.
It was a beautiful area and a fun walk. Definitely worth going.

Rainbow mountains are amazing. the property is well managed. We used a wheelchair for my mother, and we only had an issue at Station #2 - the hill was very steep.... but so worth it! For people walking - it's about 200 steps, but with platforms as you go . Station 4 was my favorite. Allocate a good 4-5 hours, and try to go as the sun is moving (later day) - the colors do change as you go! There are shops to buy food and drink at every station, and the shuttle bus service is very very well managed.
