WE DO TAKE CARDS
Jun 2021
Sorry to shout but we run the tea rooms at Hodnet gardens and we do take cards - we have done for several years and although at the moment we still are using disposable cups and pates we offer several dishes - today is a pea goats cheese and mint quiche with jersey royals, leek and potato soup with chive creme fraiche, feta, butternut squash and roast pepper salad as well as a range of home made cakes and scones. open every Wednesday and Sunday throughout the season.

Different every time
May 2021
We live a few miles away and have been visiting every couple of weeks while travel has been restricted. It is wonderful to see the gardens changing as the season progresses and, almost every visit, we find somewhere new. Even when busy, there are plenty of peaceful places to find, particularly if you walk up the lake sides.

The café has friendly ladies and tasty home-made cakes. Seating outside is well spread out.

They take the Historic Houses card, which means that entry for us is free. Since we found Historic Houses, our visits around the country have been transformed - the properties are all privately owned and usually (grand) family homes.

Varied and Vibrant
May 2021 • Couples
We spent a thoroughly enjoyable three hours walking around these gardens. They are beautifully maintained and the many different paths offer varied views and vibrant spring colours. Lunchtime sandwiches were the best we’ve had for a long time (and they do take cards now).

Return visit after lockdown easing
Apr 2021
Returned here after our short visit to nearby Wollerton Old Hall Gardens.
Had a leisurely stroll around the extensive grounds which were quite colourful with lots of daffodils and narcissi in bloom. Weather was bright and sunny but chilly at times for early April.
Luckily had sufficient cash for a cup of tea as they do not accept card payment (even under pandemic conditions).
Relatively expensive at £8.50 per adult if you did not have HHA membership.

Gorgeous gardens
Sep 2020 • Family
No need to pre book but do check opening times. Very very good value for money. Beautiful, extensive gardens. Parking was easy. Toilets were spotless, tearoom was open.
New areas to discover around every corner, we really loved it. The children climbed a tree, rolled down a slope, went up and down steps and over bridges, jumped off rocks, sat in little follies.
You can picnic anywhere so no need to think about timings just sit down when you're ready. And definitely don't picnic in the car park when there's 40 acres of beauty! The most peaceful, relaxing day I've had in months.

Idyllic tranquility
Sep 2020 • Couples
Hodnet Hall gardens is a wonderful place to escape to for a few hours anytime, but particularly under the present conditions.
The gardens and woodland walks are enchanting and peaceful. As the seasons change you see something different every visit. It is lovely to walk around and feel you are in your own bit of the English countryside.

Light refreshments are available and although not as extensive as under normal conditions are very welcome.
Home made spicy carrot and coriander soup and crushed minted pea quiche lunchbox (today 20th Sept 20) were delicious as are all the sandwiches and home made cakes that are available.

Just sorry there is only one more Sunday when the gardens are open this season. But we certainly will be back next year to enjoy the lovely setting and everything a visit their holds.

Very pretty garden in lovely surroundings...
Aug 2020
I believe the gardens are open on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays through to late September. We visited the gardens in glorious weather today, and really enjoyed them.

The car park was in a field just a short walk away from the start of a suggested walking route, which was shown on the map given to us at the payment booth on the road in. The route takes you around the hall, then down to a series of ponds which were alive with ducks, moorhens and a couple of swans. The map also offered extended walking routes for those who want to do a little more legwork.

There are some stone steps dotted around the 60+ acre site (full of really mature trees, shrubs and flowers) to help you change elevation, though very often there was a grassy slope either side of the steps. When we’d circumnavigated the ponds, we rejoined the main driveway and headed to the walled Kitchen Garden passing an ancient barn and a few young cattle en route. We also got a decent view of the renovated dovecote.

We finished-off with a Ploughman’s lunch, some sandwiches and tea at the pleasant tea room before returning to the car. Since there are benches thoughtfully distributed around the gardens, we saw a few people with picnics. We also saw many people walking dogs, though all on a lead.

All in all a super couple of hours in a very pretty part of the World.
