I highly recommend visiting this shrine. It's tucked back into the woods. The forest and beautiful buildings make it a great place to relax, walk around, and appreciate nature. I really can't recommend this place enough. It was my favorite shrine I went to.

This is a very impressive shrine that puts you in touch with the kami and the profound direct experience of nature that lies at the heart of the Japanese spirit world. Rather than getting a bus to the fifth station and walking to the top,...More

Located in Kamiyoshida, Fujiyoshida city. Accessible by bus from Fujisan station of Fujikyu highland railway. Also accessible on foot from the station. Walking takes about 25 minutes through the town. The Sengen Jinja is located at foot of Mount Fuji and considered as a gateway...More

Set back from the busy main road in a beautiful ancient forest this is well worth a visit. Beautiful surroundings with a beautiful temple setting. Tranquil and contemplative.

The entry way to this shrine is absolutely stunning. Tall cedar trees. Moss covered statues and lanterns. The January sun came through the tree branches and made for the most beautiful pictures. They have a fire ceremony at this shrine, in honor of Mt. Fuji's...More

Maybe it was the tall Japanese cedar trees or the moss-covered lanterns lining the entryway, but this was probably one of my favorite shrines I've been to in Japan, and I've been to a lot! It was absolutely breathtaking and peaceful. I loved the earthy...More

Pretty relaxing and tranquil place in a wooded area. The trees are huge. It was raining so we only viewed the shrine. The shrine is very ornate. Due to the rain, there wasn’t a crowd.

Meanwhile I visited quite many shrines in Japan, but this one definately had the largest red torii inside. Also they were extremely tall or big trees here to find, and especially nice was the walk to the shrine through the forest, surrounded by stone-laterns. Everything...More

Wow a national treasure the first step for the pilgrims to Mt Fuji. The grove of trees at the entrance gives you an insight into the past geography and the serenity and at the side on the right behind the huge shrine is the petite...More
