it may not look much from the outside in the middle of the high street but the Moot Hall is a very interesting building with lots of history. There are cells for the kids, an old court and great views from the roof.

If you walk down Maldon High Street you will find this ancient building on the left hand side a short distance from the lovely old church. It has a magnificent Tudor facade constructed in typical narrow red bricks. It is part of a much larger building which alas is no more. At certain times of year it is open to... More

Situated on Maldon’s high street this building has been a number of things during it’s existence. Owned by the local council it contains the original council chamber, also the old courtroom and cells for the prisoners. Views from the rooftop over Maldon are good and its history is most interesting. Guided tours are available and no doubt need to be... More

I don't think this building is always open but we were lucky. Originally a private house this was taken over by Maldon and used as a police house and cells, a magistrates court and a council chamber where they now conduct civil ceremonies. You can climb up steep circular stairs to the roof and get a great view of the... More

Went on the guided tour with one of the Trustees. Very interesting to hear the extensive and varied history first-hand. There are a lot of steep narrow stairs so this is not suitable for those with any walking difficulties.

Been coming to Maldon for 20 years and finally managed to do the Moot Hall tour. We were surprised lasted 90 minutes and was well worth the entrance £4 each for adults. Our guide was very informative and gave us such an interesting tour. Would definitely recommend visiting it.

Arranged a tour with some of my U3A friends yesterday. We had a very interesting tour guide, John, who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Moot Hall, some of which went back to 1420. Each of the rooms we were shown was different and had an interesting history, and the circular stairway with rounded bricks was spectacular. We were... More
