Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Centre, which is right in the middle of Maldon and next to our favourite restaurant. The staff were helpful and well-informed and there was a nice range of gifts and information.
The highlight was the amazing embroidery, showing the history of Maldon from the time of the Viking invasions in the 10th. Century to recent events in the 21st. Century. There was also a fascination audio record of some older Maldon residents, talking about the town as it used to be.

I visited this place when I went to Maldon for the day with friends. The staff in there were very friendly and helpful. There is some great things to look at and see the local history and what the local people do around the area. There was plenty of things to buy which are made locally and they had done lovely jewellery in there. You should pop in here if you are in Maldon.

We just popped in for a few minutes and ending up staying much longer!
The trustee-volunteer, Jill, showed me that detailed history of the town through a very long embroidery ---- think of the Bayeaux Tapestry! It brought the town's history to life for me.
Thank you.

Not that good, there's better places to visit in Maldon. Hasn't been the same since the old manager left.

If you are visiting Maldon for the first time, as I was, the Maeldune Heritage Centre is a good place to start. It's worth spending a little time to learn something about the town and it's history. It houses a spectacular modern tapestry showing the history of the town, some old artefacts, a model Thames barge, and some information. There are also the usual touristy geegaws and some art to buy, if that's your thing.
The building itself, on a corner of the High Street, is fascinating (essentially the tower of an ancient church with later additions), and the grave yard contains some gravestones of a pattern I've never seen before, which I'm assuming are a local thing.
Up a tight spiral staircase in the tower is Thomas Plume's Library, a collection of books given to the town (along with a Grammar school) by a local boy made good. It isn't open every day, but I did find it interesting, as a building and as a library. The helpful lady librarian was a source of much information about the modest philanthropist who's responsible for it.
