The Nurdoto and Masai Bush Land Development Program situated just 30kms south of Arusha town joining the Arusha National park. Ngurdoto is the diverse forested region consoicuous for its variety and abundance of birds, wildlife and butterflies. Its know to have the wildest and largest range of birds in the Arusha Region.
The area is an important buffer to the Arusha and Mt. Meru National Parks which are significant reserve of both flora and fauna. People of the gentle Meru and Maasai tribes have settled ere, establishinng homes and small farms throught the forest and bush land.
Population and social development are putting increasing pressure on the natural environment so the Ngurdoto and Maasai Bush Land Development Program has been established. Its mission is to preserve the natural habitat and traditional culture while facilitating education and social development programs.
John Henry Ngowi has been appointed the Coordinator/Founder of this program and a percentage of his activities is given back to the local community.
The Meru and Maasai people of Ngurdoto and the Bush land community welcome visitors to their beautiful villages and bush land/dense forest to observe traditional Meru and Maasai culture within forested and bush land surroungis and small native farms.
Among the attractions is a volcanic vent know locally as the Supernatural Well. Its set in the dense rain forest and abounds with dragonflies. Its reputed to be the home of benevolent spirits.
Maasai bush land camel walk and ride through the Maasai bush land dinner and overnight at baboon gorge, natural rock bee hives is among attractions in the bush land.
