The SS Atlantic Heritage Park is dedicated to the memory of those lost in the SS Atlantic shipwreck of 1873. The SS Atlantic was the second ship of the White Star Line, the same company responsible for the equally ill-fated Titanic. Our site tells the tragic story of this disaster through interpretive panels and recovered artifacts. There is also a memorial for the victims, which is located in our beautiful seaside park. Light snacks and crafts by local artists are available for purchase.

We had an indoor lunch in this museum. The society was very accommodating in allowing our large group to have lunch out of the rain. Many of the souvenirs cf are hand made and used to support this group.

We enjoyed this small museum (donations appreciated). It was very interesting to learn about this historical maritime disaster and view artifacts from dives. We spent more time than we thought we would here. The young man in the museum was a pleasure to talk with and gladly answered our questions. After the museum, we took the walk through the graveyard... More

This is a mini-park and memorial to the crash of the S. S. Altantic Sea Liner in 1873. This was the worst sea disaster in terms of loss of life between 1710 and the sinking of the Titanic. The park is somewhat wheelchair accessible or at least it says it is. The entrance is a bit unusual in that it... More

We stopped at Peggy's Cove and could not leave soon enough as there were gobs of tour buses bringing people in from the cruise ships in Halifax. We did take the time to stop at the Information center and this wonderful woman suggested that we go to Terence Bay and visit this Heritage Center. We left immediately. At the center,... More

Beautiful place by the ocean with a boardwalk and gazebo. One of the best places to go for relaxation in the summer.

We went to see this small quaint park. It was so beautiful and there were very few people at the location and the volunteer who was there was so helpful. So relaxing and beautiful

This is an out of the way place but worth the drive. A self guided interpretive center (and cafe) about the largest loss of lives (pre-Titanic) and the heroes that saved many. Considering the year, it is a miracle people survived and were rescued. There was an extensive dive effort to recover the cargo (but not the bodies). Very interesting... More

What a wonderful, out of the way, history experience. A little known but significant disaster of the sea. We were very impressed by the artifacts displayed, the short walking trail, and the knowledge of the centre volunteer. If you go to Peggy's Cove, be sure to visit Terence Bay. It is indeed a hidden gem!

This was a worthwhile stop, after visiting the Titanic grave site. Many died in this much less famous wreck, but didn't receive the notoriety because no rich people were on board.
