Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We had a lovely wine tasting session, and the setting is magnificent. Our host was Ian, whose knowledge and enthusiasm was infectious.
After the tasting was over, we needed to walk to Medhurst, but a sudden torrential rainstorm made that problematic. We are indebted to Ian who very kindly offered to drive us in his car. Well beyond the call of duty and much appreciated.

This was the first winery in Yarra we visited and upon had high expectations. The cellar door is exquisite, great character, decor not to mention the stunning views. Then we realised this is likely because they charge a lot for their wines! Yes I understand there are some wines that come from a two barrel production. However I think across the valley you are spoilt for choice and the standard just does not match the price tag for us.
Paid tasting like most wineries, which is completely acceptable if you receive the service. The lady that served us, short with a blonde hair, was clearly having a bad day!Had no time for our group and seemed like she was in the wrong profession, very rude and not one smile the whole time. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I had heard a lot about this large and popular winery. I felt the whole complex looking quite rundown and uninviting .
The views however from it are lovely.

Arriving at Yarra Yering, I was immediately taken by the stunning views with the rows of grape vines all neatly lined up. The interior was equally charming with a rustic elegant setting and I thought to that it would be the perfect way to begin my winery tour in Yarra Valley.

Unfortunately, as my family and I entered the establishment, we were greeted with a curt stare as the staff member then proceeded to continue whatever she was doing ignoring our group. I assumed she might be having a bad day so I just continued browsing around.

When I finally did pick the selection of wines I wanted to try, I was also met with a cold and slightly awkward attitude from another member of staff. As we went through the list of wines, she was kind of just reading off the information of the wines, which you can actually just read in the information sheet they provide. It was quite disappointing because it would have been lovely to pick up some interesting facts or some personal experiences with the different wines. I point this out only because there was an inconsistency in her service towards me where she appeared slightly more approachable to another couple.

On a separate note, there are 3 “flights” to pick from and flight 1 is a great list to start with if you’ve never tasted wines from them. As mentioned by other reviewers, there is a $10-$15 charge for the tasting and it is absorbed if you purchase a bottle. All the wines taste amazing with the reds being the highlight for me. I eventually got a bottle of their Malbec which was divine.

All in all, Yarra Yering is still a great spot to explore if you’re in the valley for premium wines as they are carefully curated and blended. All the place needs is for its staff to be a little warmer and kinder for customers to truly appreciate the beauty of this place.

Excited to visit Yarra Yering after hearing so much about the delicious wines . The scenery fabulous , the cellar door was stunning. However on arrival we felt unwelcome by the staff , we were not able to establish a rapport like other wineries in the area . It felt very cold and unfriendly; discouraging us to buy any of the delicious wines . A stark contrast from the other wineries in the area . Disappointing.

We walked in while another group was having a tasting. We were not acknowledged at all, however we waited while the group finished. Once they had left, the staff member stated what a lovely day it was. There was no service or conversation at all, we were ignored as she went around opening windows and tidying the register area, without any greetings. We left, as we were made to feel very unwelcome. Disappointing as this cellar door had been recommended by locals.

This boutique winery is the home to some truly exceptional wines, crafted by James Halliday’s Winemaker of the year winner, Sarah Crowe.

2 paid tasting options are available. Amber, who served us was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wines.

The tasting rooms are beautifully appointed, with stunning views over the vineyards.

Highly recommend visiting if you are looking for premium wines and great service.

Located in a lovely valley with a beautiful view, Yarra Yering went downhill from there.

The tasting room and cellar door were very nice facilities with views over the vineyards. The staff handling the tastings were not friendly nor helpful. They routinely went through what was a rehearsed speech, with no emotion or real interest. Questions were met with an explanation of how they made the best wine and had just received 99 points on a specific wine. I ended up walking away and taking pictures, leaving my husband to endure the pain of tasting. Although he said the wines were very good, they weren’t worth the attitude that came with them. Avoid this winery if you can.

I visited two wineries in the Yarra valley here and Coldstream Hills, the two with finest reputations. For $Au 20 I purchased a tasting of their full range, there are cheaper flights of wine to be had. The tasting room overlooks the vinyard and has an interesting collection of old (empty) bottles which included a 1990 Yarra Yerring dry red number 1, the very first vintage I ever tried. The young lady taking the tasting was knowledgeable and ensured that the Reidel tasting glass was not empty for long. The wines are an interesting homage to the old world, particularly the Carrodus range which are all around $200. By far the strangest wine for me was the fortified, it is quite unlike anthing I have ever quaffed. Very interesting winery that I can highly recommend visiting, good luck with their port.
