Exbury's beautiful woodland gardens cover 200 acres and is a jewel in the heart of the New Forest National Park. Primroses, daffodils, camellias and magnolias ensure early spring colour before bluebells, rhododendrons and azaleas burst into bloom. The spectacle of the Azalea Bowl is not to be missed in May. The summer months bring shady riverside walks and perfect picnic spots next to ponds with carp and dragonflies. Hydrangeas are at their peak and showpiece exotics heat up the Herbaceous Borders and Sundial Garden. Autumn arrives in a blaze of colour with waterside maples, sweet gums, dogwoods and acers. Exbury also has a 12¼ inch gauge Steam Railway which delights visitors of all ages and the 20 minute journey passes by the fabulous Rock and Summer Lane Gardens. Children will love the play area, discovery trails, scavenger hunts, bug hunting and special events that run throughout the year. The Tea Room offers a delicious hot and cold seasonal menu, afternoon tea and more.

I imagine May is the best time to visit these gardens but the greenery and trees were magnificent when we visited in the middle of June. The buggy service, at an extra cost, is ideal for those who cannot cover the large area on foot....More

By now early June, most of the rhododendrons have finished flowering, but there is still plenty to discover at Exbury. We enjoyed a nice snooze on the grass near the north train station as so few people were in the garden. The art gallery always...More

We visited here in mid may, and caught the Rhododendrons in full bloom, what a sight they were. Lots of paths and tracks to explore, and planted out for all seasons. We enjoyed it so much, that on the way out we upgraded our day...More

This was absolutely stunning at the end of May, not sure what it would offer at other times of the year as was mainly Azaleas, Rhodedendrons and a few camellias, but who knows there may be further surprises. Loved our few hours here, lunch and...More
