We loved our recent short break at Buchan Ness lighthouse's Skerry Cottage. We enjoyed the isolation, the atmosphere and the history of this special place. It gave an insight into what life would've been like for the keepers and their families. It was well equipped with exceptional views. We walked around the outside of the walls and saw seals and all manner if seabirds. The open fire was wonderful too and added to the whole experience. The only thing that we had a problem with, was the DVD player as we purposely bought our DVD of The Fog to watch, but it wouldn't work. We would like to return in the future. Thank you Sheila.

Want to stay somewhere out of the ordinary? This is it. Providing secluded, unspoiled accommodation, this is the ideal spot to get away from it all; whether you are taking a few days holiday or working in the area, this location will definitely ensure you relax. A simple design born out of the practicality required by its original purpose, the sturdy construction wraps itself around you to provide cosiness in even the stormiest weather. Comfortable rooms and well-equipped kitchen; decking area overlooking the crashing waves. Rain or shine, the views are great, and I wish we'd had longer to explore - I wouldn't hesitate to book here again. Nice to meet the owner too, and her friendly dogs.

This is the type of accommodation you love telling people about! A secluded, private and well equipped cottage at the base of a working lighthouse. Comfortable, cosy and homely it has enough of a rustic feel to let you imagine what the lighthouse keepers life was like but the lovely modern touches enable a place to totally relax in. A decked area outside for warmer days is another nice touch and it’s where we sat on the first night to watch the flashing light! - Made me feel like a kid again experiencing something new! There is a small well stocked shop along the road and a chip shop in boddam that has excellent suppers. We had our car for touring the area, the beach at Peterhead and Cruden Bay are simply stunning. Peterhead prison also visited and worth a look. Lots of local eateries - we were recommended to visit the St Olaf hotel for Sunday supper and were not disappointed. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful and talkative. I simply loved the fact that it was behind private gates and a place to retire to after a day’s sightseeing. The coal fire was an added bonus and the views from the cottage across the sea are stunning. We missed the orcas and dolphins who had been seen in the area the previous week and we were told they were literally outside our window at skerry rock - but the locals proudly showed us lots of pictures! When I think of places I’ve visited this one will make me smile for a very long time to come!

Had a lovely holiday at Buchan Ness Lighthouse. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. Sheila was a friendly and excellent host and the gift of fizz and cupcakes when she found out my husband was celebrating a big birthday was a lovely touch. We will definitely be back and my only wish for next time is for some stormy weather while we are warm and snug by the peat fire!

We were seeking a little weekend away to celebrate a birthday in the family, and really wanted somewhere a little quirky - where the dog could come too - and which had nice walks in the area. When the lighthouse popped up in my search - wow! Looked beautiful, and well appointed, with great reviews. So very different as a place to stay, so we booked. Having never been to area before was not quite sure what to expect. But we had a lovely walk to Boddam Castle Ruins and along the cliffs; then again along to Peterhead and back via the coastal path. KItchen well appointed - but we only cooked breakfast - as on our 2 nights there 1 night was a Chip Shop tea, and the next the birthday dinner at the Seaview Bistro - both also excellent. Was great in the morning to open the kitchen door, and hear the sea (and the gulls!) to accompany breakfast. The roaring fire in the lounge - another massive plus. Going out at night and looking up at the lighthouse - so cool!!! Sheila is an excellent hostess - and we hope to return.
