Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

WOW! Fantastic hike, the loch walk is just over 11 miles and took us just under 5 hours.
Started cloudy with rain - finished in sunshine - the weather can change quiet quickly without any shelter so water proofs and sunscreen recommend.

We also did the much smaller walk around rocks the day before which was also impressive for those short on time

A magnificent fissure cut through the very centre of Scotland with the River Affric running the length of the Glen like a main vein.. The main event is loch Beinn a' Mheadhain. Unfortunately loch affric has no road approach and i am not fit for the necessary and lengthy trail hiking. I loved what i saw in this area which had previously evaded me. Be warned this is a remote area with few eateries or amenities the two villages of Cannich and Tomich have few choices. Tomich hotel or Slaters at Cannich being about it for availability. A stunning forest and loch area of great interest to anyone who appreciates natural beauty.

Some great walks from the various parking areas along the Glen. I went to Plodda Falls first and then down the other side to Dog Falls, Loch Beinn á Mheadhain and then down to River Affric. Choice of way marked trials from each one to some wonderful viewpoints. I think it would be more reasonable to pay for a day parking ticket that you could then take to each of the parking areas because I had to pay £3 twice along the same stretch of road because I wanted to do a trail from the two charging car parks. Plodda Falls isn’t a charging car park though and worth the dodgy track down to it.

We walked the 12 miles around Loch Affric, the paths were well maintained and the scenery amazing. Could do with a bench or two along the way to sit and have your packed lunch, which is a must when doing this walk, which took us five and a half hours. The weather was hit and miss, set off in lovely sunshine, walked through a sleet storm and back out into sunshine again. It's best to prepare for all weather for this walk as different parts of the Glen can have totally different weather. The only negative thing I have to say is that the first bridge (anticlockwise direction) is roped off as it is very damaged and looks like it will collapse at any point. We crossed with care as there is no other option other than turning back, this needs taking care of as, if the walk is done clockwise, and you had to turn back, you would have already walked about 7 miles. There is also a river crossing to be made at around the 5 mile mark which was challenging as the river was in full flow, be prepared to get your feet wet. There is a complicated way of stepping over rocks which are slippy. Could do with a small bridge, couple of sturdy planks of wood would do the trick.

We travelled the length of the Glen which was just so lovely.
Stopped in the last car park which was quite full but so peaceful, we got caught out as there was a small charge for parking but took only cash which we didn’t have (thanks to covid!).
Lovely for birdwatching but there wasn’t too much about for us.
Just a quiet, peaceful tranquil area.

This is a beautiful glen with some spectacular views of lochs and ancient pinewoods. We drove along it for about 9 miles to the final car park (some big pot holes - be careful!) where there are good washroom facilities and picnic tables. Well worth a visit.

We spent a full day hiking the various trails around Glen Affric. This was one of our most memorable days of hiking in Scotland. The trails are well maintained and marked and have a range of difficulties/lengths for the novice to more seasoned hiker. The landscape is varied and lovely, and the views are breathtaking. A not to miss spot to spend some time in.

Glen Affric is one of the last natural Caledonian forests in Scotland. We stayed locally in Cannich and spent the day in the Glen with a picnic. Started with Plodda Falls first and then down the other side to Dog Falls. Both were magical an spectacular. I can highly recommend for a day trip.

Absolutely beautiful drive with plenty picnic areas to spend time. We drove the route and stopped off and took walks with the dogs. We saw a family canoeing and paddle boarding. Water was so clean and clear.

it worth spend more time to this beautiful nature reserve.
you can drive along whole circle and stop each car park for view and photo.
bring your picnic and sit next to loch. Each park car have long or short walk to choose, no need good hiker to finish the circle, we only choose 15-20mins walk but can easy reach good view.
