Interesting place. Owned by a Zagreb industrialist, Ernst Tolj, the entire operation looks like a very expensive and indulgent hobby. We stayed overnight in a stylish but not well thought out room and enjoyed a top notch meal in a beautiful and empty dining room. It felt rather ghostly to me. We were the only guests and our hostess made it clear that they don't expect to ever have or perhaps even want many visitors. Once the parking lot (under construction) is finished, they will be able to welcome guests more readily. Mr. Tolj bought this abandoned property eight years ago and turned it into a modern, stylish winery. It has a brand new feel to it, and I had the sense that we were the first overnight guests, though that can't possibly be the case. Antonija was our charming, helpful hostess and server at dinner, before which she took us on a tour through the modern and architecturally interesting winery. She has an enological education and could answer technical questions about the wines. At dinner we chose the 7 course tasters menu with wine pairings. Every course was beautiful and delicious with the most delicate tiny wildflowers garnishing many of the dishes. Again, very stylish. The meal did not disappoint. Some of the highlights were the exceptional apple, cucumber and fennel sorbetto and the tortellini with cottage cheese, boleto mushrooms, foie gras and local herbs. The honey and yoghurt dessert with goat yogurt mousse , sage honey sprinkles and fig dust was one of the most creative and fun desserts I've ever enjoyed. It is always fun to have a different wine with each course and they were all pretty good for such a new place. By the end of the meal I could barely move. It was a bit much. I should have chosen the four course option. Luckily our room was steps away. The winery/restaurant/hotel is out in the countryside so one must have a vehicle to get there. I would come for a special meal but would not recommend an overnight stay unless you plan to drink a lot. They are building a boutique hotel which may be worth checking out in a year or two.
