Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were pleasantly surprised with this museum. It didn't look much but the value is in the knowledge of the owner/guide. You take a guided tour which takes about 40 minutes. You learn all about cameras from a hundred years ago and later, probably up to but not including the digital age. You are shown a range of spy cameras and there are some great stories to go along with them. Don't be out off with your first glance it is really worth a visit.

So well worth a visit and James Bond (alias Micheal) as the tour guide oozes with such amazing wealth of Spy history which captivates and you hang off every word so you don’t miss out on the detail. Spy stories (the real deal). Herberton you didn’t disappoint. Thanks 007

At first we thought it was a bit expensive but by the end of the guided tour we felt it was more than worth the cost.
The commentary and anecdotes were superb and the range of photography equipment was mind boggling.
Thoroughly recommend a visit and make sure you take the guided tour.

It's been 6 months since I went to the spy camera museum and I still think about how awesome it was and still feel the need to leave a review. Make sure you get the full tour with the owner. He is full of stories and wisdom. Even if he was going to tell me the exact same things next time, I wouldn't hesitate to go again. One of the best experiences in QLD.

We had an awesome time learning about different cameras and the history behind them, we also looked at the multiple gadgets and cameras that the spy's used. A must see if you get a chance.

Stayed in Port Douglas and was told we must visit this place in Herberton and it did not disappoint. The owner was so knowledgeable and we certainly learnt some interesting facts, lots of collectible working cameras from 100 years ago. I really enjoyed the time he spent to explain it all and show us the cameras. Loved the spy cameras. Definitely worth the trip

Wasn’t overly keen but my son forced us 😂 BUT so glad we did! Totally worth the entry and the chap is an entertainer. He has such an incredible range there including amazing spy cameras. The kids were enthralled. Highly recommend.

I'm astounded at how many residents of Herberton - deceased or still around - were collectors of rare cameras. The original curator of this museum was himself a spy, the current owner and guide, Michael, is an eccentric, extremely knowledgeable photographer. My husband is a photographer, and collector of cameras, and he learned much in this small museum. Michael's tour was delivered mostly to our kids, who were fascinated with the equipment but also by Michael's world view. We saw pristine examples of famous cameras and got to handle and focus some of the more interesting exhibits. The museum includes a working phonograph and a unique spy transmitter (which we didn't want to handle) that you have to see to believe! Thoroughly entertaining and an absolute highlight, worth the drive.

One needs to take the tour of this extensive and exclusive display of spy cameras and the history of photography and projection. You do not need to have a special interest in photography to become absorbed into this world . Professional Photographer Michael Petersen will have you fascinated with information both technical for those that seek it and a common touch with a good sense of humour to boot. Very rare and expensive collector cameras, many with fascinating histories display how important surveillance was and still is through war and peace. It is both educational and entertaining. Suitable for all ages. You will be surprised!

We expected to find an array of cameras but were not prepared for the extent and value of the camera collection and the expertise of the owner. We spent a fascinating hour looking and listening and being thoroughly entertained and educated. Well worth a visit.
