    Wonderful day trip from Munich!
One of the highlights of our trip to Munich! We took the train to Herrsching (very easy) and used AllTrails to follow the route up to the monastery. The path through the woods was beautiful and not too crowded. A little bit of incline but not too bad. At the top, we explored some of the buildings and then went to the beer garden area. The food and beer were delicious, and the atmosphere was wonderful with traditional live music. After we finished lunch we walked back down past the train station to the lake and had dessert. It’s a perfect day trip from Munich, and honestly we enjoyed the beer garden there more than Oktoberfest.

Another visit and my favourite Weissbier
A must do when I am in Munich for more than 1 night. I've been visiting for more than 30 years. It's a wonderful day trip out to Herrsching on the S-Bahn and then the walk or bus to the monastery (or to Tutzing and then the bus). It's very pleasant indeed sitting out on the terrace with a view over the countryside, drinking my favourite Weissbier.

A lovely stop for a couple of hours
A lovely stop during our trip from Hohenschwangau to Munich. It was easy to park in the large carpark at the bottom of the hill and there were free bathrooms too. The abby is beautiful & peaceful. We paid 1 euro each to climb the tower and could see the view of the surrounding area from small windows. We had apple Strudel at the Cafe afterwards.

The Monastery is for both pilgrims and beer-lovers a must. The church is an impressive, beautiful artwork and the beergarden is placed on the southside of the monastery so that we, even on the last weekend of october, could sit outside in 15 degrees and sunshine. The beer is outstanding and the food is very good and cheap. It's a 60 minutes travel by train and bus from downtown MUC and the MVV dayticket for up to 5 adults is 20€.

One afternoon at the Andechs Brewery, a pleasant surprise: I ate a cheese speciality (Obatzda - Cheese spread with large pretzel), and the second warm sauerkraut with crispy grilled knuckle/belly of pork, also we drank monastery beer. It was very crowded ... Then I took a walk on the shore of the lake, admiring the sunset below ... worth a visit there ...

The church, brewery and grounds were lovely. We made the mistake of arriving on a rainy Sunday, about an hour after mass ended. We explored the gift shop and enjoyed a beer while hoping for a table that never became available, so we didn’t get to try any of the highly rated food items. We’re glad to have seen the church and grounds but disappointed we didn’t get the full experience.

We have been coming to Andechs Monastery for generations. And the hustle and bustle increases every year. The majority of visitors turn right into the Bräustüberl, skipping out at the beautiful church. When life is booming in the Bräustüberl, the church is quiet and you are often the only visitor. As long as Father Anselm was still there, we were allowed to look around the corner in the church door with a sick dog in our arms and pray ("just come in. Under Francis, animals were allowed in the church too..."). Recently, we were rudely ordered to leave immediately by shouting loudly through the church (we were the only visitors). Ordering a mass for the deceased, for example, means that the name is on a long list and the list is on the altar. That's the end of the donation and mass. In the Bräustüberl, nothing is original "Andechs Monastery" anymore; all the food comes from somewhere else, only the "Obatzte" is still mixed together on site. The prices are probably at the usual level today and it is surprising how much money is obviously spent so easily. It is crowded. It is loud. In the cafe over there, very individual service and a calm atmosphere; almost individual. We are welcome there - even with our dogs. The monastery shop has a purely "church" range. The memorial candles that you can buy there cannot be lit in the church, only placed in the collection container. Too much, too much, too much. The curse of success. Why do we still make the pilgrimage to Andechs every year? Because the "holy mountain" is beautiful and will remain beautiful!

The walk to get to Andechs is beautiful and scenic, but not too strenuous a walk. You do have to be able to climb stairs to get there. From the nearest train station the walk up to the monastery will require about an hour, then plan for an hour or two if you plan to eat there.
The interior of the church is wonderful, with rooms that you can look into through windows to see many beautiful, huge old candles. The church is beautiful. There is a lovely view from the various areas of the monastery.
The food was good, and the beer is good too. The downside is the grumpy staff selling and dishing out the beer and food at the self-serve part of the establishment. A simple smile and a cheerful word or two would make a huge difference to the overall experience.

The pilgrimage church "Annunciation of the Virgin Mary" of the Benedictine monastery of Andechs, which attracts numerous "pilgrims" not least because of the popular beer from the monastery brewery, was already a popular place of pilgrimage in the 12th century.
The Count of Andechs on Bavaria's 720m high "Holy Mountain" is said to have brought three relics with him from a pilgrimage from Jerusalem. When the castle was destroyed, the relics were lost and after the "three holy hosts" were rediscovered, construction of a late Gothic church began.
The "Three Host Festival" is celebrated every year on the last Sunday in September.
In the renewal movement of the 18th century, the decoration was limited to the interior with magnificent decoration. The famous J.B. Zimmermann, who had just finished his work on the Wieskirche, was brought in to create the Rococo interior.
The two-story main altar looks like a stage under the magnificent canopy. The surrounding curved gallery gives the narrow church space a floating elegance.

The place is certainly pretty, they have souvenir stores and around three Biergartens. We tried to eat there but it was impossible, too many people, that was ok, the biergarten was not a traditional one, it is more an inside dining area. They have live music which is a plus for me. To go there there are buses every 30 minutes.

We visited the Andechs Monastery on September 13th, the day wasn't the best and it even rained in the afternoon. We still had time to visit the Monastery, (really very beautiful, decorated in white and gold) certainly beautiful but the attraction we saw was another, in fact behind the Monastery there is a very large place where they serve food and they also sell their own beer. I have to say we had to queue to order food. Usual German lunch, shank, various roasts, sausages, sauerkraut and potatoes, as well as of course their beers. We then moved to a nearby village which also has a beautiful lake (Ammermess), unfortunately it started to rain and we couldn't enjoy the place, with the sun it must be very beautiful.
