A very long drive, so we recommend one of the tours - much more relaxing and you get to view all the scenery on the way up. The site is great! Although we were there during a heavy storm, it was still worth the walk...More

We got sandwiches and drinks in Kaitaia and drove North in the rain to the parking lot at Cape Reinga. It was foggy and raining when we got there but as we were walking down to the lighthouse the sun came out. The views along...More

You're in Northland, you have to go here. Its that simple Take a raincoat / windbreaker, as it can get both cold and wet up there, and its a longer walk than I anticipated down to the lighthouse from the carpark so ensure your kids...More

This is so worth doing. Got there early before all the coach tours. The iconic lighthouse at the tip of north island. Sun shining and a Maroi guy randomly out of view began singing it echoed all around was very moving.

We have a wonderful and enjoyable walk with three over 60's. It took us 30 minutes walking down to the lighthouse and 40 minutes to walk back. We were lucky to have a lovely sunny day

It's a nice walk, you need sunblock on a sunny and cloudy and every day. It can be busy as many tourist buses are going there and of course the end of the country so many solo and couple travelers also end up here.

Walk to the lighthouse is worth the views once on the cliffs. Interesting signs along the route to explain the history.

Beautiful view, it was a bit foggy when we drove in but by the time we walked to the lighthouse it had cleared. Neat to see where the Pacific and Tasman Sea came together.

As everyone else has said it is a good drive on sealed roads if staying off 90 mile beach. If you have a 4WD (not a rental) highly recommend driving part of the way along the beach
