The REAL site of the Legends Death
Dec 2019
The memorial at the tree is nice enough but if you want to go to the actual crash site, you need to head to the 41 and 46 junction. That is where most pay there respects. Now the fence isn't the exact crash site but within about 100ft. The fence and memorial were moved back for safety and highway work. I included a photo to show you the actual crash site and where the memorial would be if it was placed on the exact spot James died.

James Dean the legend
Jan 2019 • Family
James Dean is a legend! Although he appeared in only 3 films, he is an idol to millions even now.

The Memorial site here is not the exact site where the car accident occured back in 1955, but it is close. It is a nice tribute and remembrance to him. Also a reminder to me that one must always be careful yet still enjoy life cause it can be taken from us at anytime.

Crash site along the fence, not at the sign.
Feb 2018 • Friends
We came specifically to find this memorial and it was alot of traffic at the time but well worth the stop. The crash site is not at the green sign but further down along the fence where fans have placed messages and photos there. Nearby is the Jack Ranch Cafe with James Dean memorabilia and photos inside. There is a monument outside this cafe where the big tree is in honour of James Dean.

Stop at the memorial with any visiting tourists, for a photo opportunity.
Apr 2018 • Couples
I always stop at the memorial when traveling with any visiting tourists, for a photo opportunity for them, since James Dean is such an iconic part of Americana. The actual crash site is further down the road, and can be difficult when there is a lot of traffic.

Stop at Crash Site/Junction, Not the Memorial - Great Road Trip Site
Mar 2018 • Solo
It would be hard to miss it: the James Dean Crash Site is located just a few feet after the intersection with Route 41. The actual crash site is immediately after 41 merges in so I almost got into my own accident when I quickly served to the road's shoulder to park, thankfully there were no oncoming cars. (Note: right before the merge is the highway sign denoting the James Dean Memorial Junction if you like pictures of signs.)

The crash site is only a portion of the fence on which fans have tied up notes, stuffed animals, photos and messages to the iconic film star but it was nice to stand there a moment and read the messages and honor the actor.

About 1 mile further down the highway is a restaurant called the Jack Ranch Cafe with a James Dean Monument surrounding a tree in the front. It's an easy stop but the monument is rather dull/non-photogenic so if you care at all I suggest the crash site over the monument.

Solemn Visit
Jun 2017 • Family
He was so young--just 24 and along this stretch of road James Dean died. The memorial is beautiful, hard to turn in and out of, but worth the stop.

James Dean Memorial April 2017

After trying to google specific directions to this location we drove about a hour and 15 minutes out our way to find it.
Hope this will help and prevent you from the same mistakes.
First there is 2 places where HWY 41 and HWY 46 meet up.
Here's the best way to find it. If you are coming from the West. Go east on HWY 46 from the 101 FWY. You will be heading toward Cholame.
There is a place called Jack Ranch Cafe. THIS is where the memorial is set up.
Continue east on HWY 46 till you see the Y intersection. RIGHT before the Intersection on the North side of the HWY you will see the actual crash site by the flowers and license plates hanging on the fence. If you get to the Y intersection you have passed it!

A little bit of history
Sep 2015 • Family
This memorial is in the parking lot of a little restaurant along Hwy 46. A very modern memorial to a very classic guy.

We were riding our motorcycles on back roads and came to this junction, good place to get off and stretch

Here is a small monument commemorating the fatal crash of James Dean in his Porsche. Tragic end to an up and coming young actor. A place to reflect
