What an experience, no words can ever explain the day we had. From arriving at the hanger, to my husband going on his flight, the amazing staff, the chaser plane experience for our friends and family added to the experience, anyone questioning if you should do this, you definitely should. What a day. Thank you, thank you thank, thank you, what a day 💗

I can't praise this experience enough. Everyone involved, from the staff handling the initial booking on the phone, through the welcome on arrival, the volunteers who took me and my family on the hanger tour, the wonderful ground crew and, finally, Jez my amazing pilot, were so professional, polite and friendly. The flight was a 60th birthday present from my other half and it exceeded all my expectations. To fly in a Spitfire has been a dream of mine ever since I was a boy, but to be honest, I never expected it to happen. The whole day was an incredible experience from start to finish. I was accompanied by various members of my family, including my elderly parents. My father has mobility problems and I cannot praise the staff and volunteers highly enough for the patience and kindness they showed them throughout the day. Although the hanger was busy on the day of our visit we never felt rushed and I really felt I could enjoy what, after all, is likely to be a once in a lifetime experience. The highlight was, of course, the Spitfire flight itself. I still can't really find words to describe how incredible it was. Everything was handled so professionally. The pure excitement and raw power of the aircraft was truly awe inspiring. I was given two opportunities to take the controls for a fair amount of time on the way to and back from Beachy Head. The absolute highlight was the flight along the Seven Sisters, including a victory roll. My partner had paid extra for the chaser plane to accompany the Spitfire on this part of the flight. I'm not going to lie, it was an emotional experience to live out a real dream, and at the same time, fly so close alongside the chaser plane that I could see the faces of my family grinning back at me.
Finally, on returning to Biggin Hill, I was supplied with three memory cards recording the entire flight, two from cameras in the Spitfire and one looking back from the chaser plane. They make a great memory of a truly amazing day. Its not cheap, but if you can beg, steal or borrow the money to do it, go for it. You won't regret it I promise.

Thursday 26 October was the day a small part of the Crowborough u3a Aviation Group visited the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar. Prior to the visit we already got a taster of the service provision of this organisation. Trying to get a group in on a specific date when the website provided dates had run out was one headache, twice adding one more person was another challenge. Getting the group in on our required date was beatifully accomodated, and adding 2 more people to the total was also met with great flexibility. We hadn't yet seen one aircraft and quality had already been served. A very big and warm thank you to Avril and her colleague.
Then onto the tour, where we first met James our tourguide. We could not have wished for a better person to guide us round the hangars than James. His knowledge proved encyclopedic. Providing new facts and figures to people who by nature of their interest and background have already a fairly extended knowledge of the subject is an achievement. We spent an excellent few hours in his company, and in an environment where all these illustrious aircraft we know so well, are worked on at touching distance. Be it the entirely newbuilding of Spitfire wings, or the overhaul of other components, it was absolutely fabulous to see. Also the presence of young chaps who, likely as apprentices, will learn a trade from scratch and later become highly sought after craftspeople was good to see.
Writing about all this is one, trying to transfer a vibrant environment in sounds and eye candy is not really possible. If one wants to experience that, a visit tot he hangars is highly recommend, even if one is not an aircraft buff. The group had a great time and some of us will very likely return if not only for a flight. Many thanks to all at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar who have made our visit an absolute succes.

Went on the Heritage Hangar tour. They have some amazing, historic equipment there. Our guide was very well-informed, both historically and technically, and had many amusing stories - a couple edgier than I had expected. For £50 a ticket we got nearly two hours of moving, unforgettable, riveting (😂) and totally enjoyable entertainment. Great value, and we had a small group of just seven. I now understand why the flights cost so much.

What an experience! It was everything I expected and more. The staff were brilliant throughout and went above and beyond to ensure my day was as memorable as possible. I can’t fault any aspect of this booking and the overall experience. I would like to express a huge thank you to Laurie, our tour guide of the Heritage hanger was unbelievable thanks to his great knowledge and Anna for looking after us. Also, a massive thank you to my pilot Daniel for the best Spitfire experience, especially the Victory roll and trusting me to take control of the Spitfire and fly myself. Another big thanks to all the ground staff too. If you want to fly a Spitfire, you must do it from Biggin Hill and fly over the Kent countryside where the battles took place, it really is an amazing experience!

I cannot explain how much I enjoyed this day. From the minute I walked in everyone was so attentive and made sure I enjoyed the experience. Barry my pilot let me take controls with very clear instructions and we did the Victory Roll. The Tour was just a pleasurable and & we learnt so much about the Spitfire & it's history along with building etc. I am so lucky to have a husband who bought this for my birthday. The whole experience from the booking through to end was perfect. Denise

I doubt words will do this experience justice but here goes... The family (19 of us) arrived at the venue for my birthday treat just in time to see a Spitfire take off and climb away. We were greeted by the staff and taken to the viewing area where I met more staff and completed the required paperwork. I had a short safety brief to complement the emailed video I had received earlier. Jez the Spitfire pilot introduced himself and ran through the flight plan. I made a spot decision to include the grandchildren in the experience and paid for two chase planes; I don't think you could ever put a price on memories like this?
Whilst waiting for the Spitfire to be refueled several of us had an included guided tour of the hangars where we saw complete vintage aircraft and also those under restoration with great photo opportunities. Lots of interesting facts from our guide, many thanks👍
Once the Tour was over it was time to get into flying overalls and into the plane for the flight. Safety actions were covered again and we set off in company with the chase planes. The flight was amazing with up close tracking of the chase planes on each side giving the grandchildren superb views of "Gramps" flying alongside them. Once we broke away we carried out two victory rolls before Jez passed control of the Spitfire to me. A few directed manoeuvres of this amazing plane in my hands, a stunnning aircraft and a childhood dream come true.
The weather conditions were perfect and allowed for great views over the Kent countryside.
After returning to Biggin Hill we had photo opportunities in front of the Spitfire before collecting the video sim cards and gift pack before leaving.
I don't think I stopped smiling during the whole experience.
Many thanks to Jez the Spitfire pilot, the chase plane pilots and all the staff for an amazing experience.

Sorry for late response! If you have any interest in history at all I would say "Definitely, yes". The sheer level of tangible history that exists at Biggin Hill and the role it played in the Battle of Britain makes it a unique location. That, plus the guide's explanation of the combat history of the various aircraft in the hangers, makes in a fascinating experience.

My father in law is wanting to research his mother who was based at Biggin Hill when it was heavily bombed. my son wants to arrange a visit for him but we can only see the hanger tours. Is this the only thing offered or is it possible to visit for the day without the tour. if so what is the cost of a day visitor without a tour?
kind regards
Angela
Hi Angela,
The only place you can get a tour at Biggin Hill is our Hangar. The rest of the site is fenced off as it is an operational airport.
Tours of our hangar last an hour and a half and cost £36, you can book on 01959 576 767

Hello. The nearest rail station is Hayes (in Kent, not others). You will need a taxi from there as I do not know bus routes. The hangar is some distance from the main road...so I think taxi would be best. Try calling 01959 576767 as their sebsite is being worked on. Hope it helps. Regards, Richard

I received the " sitting in a Sptfire" as a gift . I believe the cost was £60 which also included access to the heritage centre. The experience itself was very memorable and the guide who took you through the history etc was very knowledgable .
