    To Heaven and Back
From the time we arrived to the time we left, there was nothing more they could have done to make this experience more memorable. All the staff, and especially my pilot Adam Green, who, without doubt, has the best job in the world! made the day, which on this occasion was my 60th birthday, even more special, and when we flew over the white cliffs of Dover, I thought it could not get better than this, but it did as for a short time I was given control of the Spitfire and then Adam did a victory roll, a perfect end to a perfect day, and I forgot to mention you have the whole fight recorded for you to take away to relive the experience over and over again. I just want to say once again a big thank you to everyone at Warbird Experiences (Fly A Spitfire.com) who where fantastic.
Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your review. We love what we do but it really makes a difference to hear how much you enjoyed your visit. Happy Birthday!

    Best 21st bday ever!!
My family surprised me on the morning of my birthday and on arrival, the staff were so lovely and welcoming. We came a little early so we got to tour the heritage hanger before my flight in the spitfire. I just wanted to mention a special thank you to Laurie who went above and beyond all my expectations by finding so many opportunities to take some memorable pictures and being an excellent tour guide. Barry was my pilot for the flight and he gave some flight lessons whilst in the air (the basics such as how to move up and down and turn the plane right and left) and allowed me to 'mime' his movements before allowing me to fly by myself for quite some time which was a surreal experience. And all of the victory rolls we got to do was just the icing on the cake! I wouldn't say I felt butterflies whilst flying, but the view was absolutely stunning at Beachy Head and definitely seeing the world go upside down is a view I will never forget and would recommend everyone to experience at least once. Also wanted to mention another massive thank you to Sam and the other staff members for accommodating us with my balloons and birthday cake and allowing us to take (a lot of) group pictures in front of the Spitfire.
We love a birthday celebration! thanks for coming to Fly a Spitfire with us . It has to be one of the best 21st birthday adventures.

    Amazing experience in a Spitfire
WOW, what an amazing, fantastic and memorable experience flying in a Spitfire over the Seven Sisters at sunset. My experience started at Biggen Hill with a guided tour of the Spitfire hanger, with my family and friends, led by Laurie. He was both very experienced and knowledgeable about the history and aircraft in the hanger, and we enjoyed every minute of his fun and informative guide. My flight was a 45 minute experience over the Seven Sisters with my family following in the spotter plane. The whole experience was just unbelievable, and amazing from beginning to end. My pilot for the flight was Barry, an incredibly gifted, fun and very experienced pilot who made the whole experience unforgettable. During the flight I was able to take the controls and Barry did some amazing rolls and aerobatics that showed the outstanding performance of the Spitfire, which literally took my breath away. This was a day I will never forget, and a memory that will be treasured with me and my family forever. Thank you to Barry, Laurie and all the team for giving both my family and I a WOW !!!! day. Amazing fun and incredible memories. Dr Terry Keech and Family.
We agree, there's nothing like soaring over the 'Seven Sisters' chalk cliffs in a Spitfire! Thanks for choosing to come and fly with us, we're so pleased the whole family enjoyed your adventure.

    Amazing birthday surprise.
I doubt words will do this experience justice but here goes... The family (19 of us) arrived at the venue for my birthday treat just in time to see a Spitfire take off and climb away. We were greeted by the staff and taken to the viewing area where I met more staff and completed the required paperwork. I had a short safety brief to complement the emailed video I had received earlier. Jez the Spitfire pilot introduced himself and ran through the flight plan. I made a spot decision to include the grandchildren in the experience and paid for two chase planes; I don't think you could ever put a price on memories like this? Whilst waiting for the Spitfire to be refueled several of us had an included guided tour of the hangars where we saw complete vintage aircraft and also those under restoration with great photo opportunities. Lots of interesting facts from our guide, many thanks👍 Once the Tour was over it was time to get into flying overalls and into the plane for the flight. Safety actions were covered again and we set off in company with the chase planes. The flight was amazing with up close tracking of the chase planes on each side giving the grandchildren superb views of "Gramps" flying alongside them. Once we broke away we carried out two victory rolls before Jez passed control of the Spitfire to me. A few directed manoeuvres of this amazing plane in my hands, a stunnning aircraft and a childhood dream come true. The weather conditions were perfect and allowed for great views over the Kent countryside. After returning to Biggin Hill we had photo opportunities in front of the Spitfire before collecting the video sim cards and gift pack before leaving. I don't think I stopped smiling during the whole experience. Many thanks to Jez the Spitfire pilot, the chase plane pilots and all the staff for an amazing experience.
We're so pleased to hear that the whole family enjoyed their visit . It's always a pleasure to welcome new visitors of all ages.

    Perfect Day in a Spitfire
I cannot explain how much I enjoyed this day. From the minute I walked in everyone was so attentive and made sure I enjoyed the experience. Barry my pilot let me take controls with very clear instructions and we did the Victory Roll. The Tour was just a pleasurable and & we learnt so much about the Spitfire & it's history along with building etc. I am so lucky to have a husband who bought this for my birthday. The whole experience from the booking through to end was perfect. Denise

    What an experience
What an experience! It was everything I expected and more. The staff were brilliant throughout and went above and beyond to ensure my day was as memorable as possible. I can’t fault any aspect of this booking and the overall experience. I would like to express a huge thank you to Laurie, our tour guide of the Heritage hanger was unbelievable thanks to his great knowledge and Anna for looking after us. Also, a massive thank you to my pilot Daniel for the best Spitfire experience, especially the Victory roll and trusting me to take control of the Spitfire and fly myself. Another big thanks to all the ground staff too. If you want to fly a Spitfire, you must do it from Biggin Hill and fly over the Kent countryside where the battles took place, it really is an amazing experience!
We are so glad you enjoyed your day with us and that it was so memorable. We love reading reviews like yours that make all our efforts so worthwhile. Thank you.

    No Fokker comes close
Went on the Heritage Hangar tour. They have some amazing, historic equipment there. Our guide was very well-informed, both historically and technically, and had many amusing stories - a couple edgier than I had expected. For £50 a ticket we got nearly two hours of moving, unforgettable, riveting (😂) and totally enjoyable entertainment. Great value, and we had a small group of just seven. I now understand why the flights cost so much.
We are pleased you enjoyed our time with us. Perhaps we will welcome you for a flight one day!

A great afternoon spent in an environment most of the group know so well. To be repeated.
Thursday 26 October was the day a small part of the Crowborough u3a Aviation Group visited the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar. Prior to the visit we already got a taster of the service provision of this organisation. Trying to get a group in on a specific date when the website provided dates had run out was one headache, twice adding one more person was another challenge. Getting the group in on our required date was beatifully accomodated, and adding 2 more people to the total was also met with great flexibility. We hadn't yet seen one aircraft and quality had already been served. A very big and warm thank you to Avril and her colleague. Then onto the tour, where we first met James our tourguide. We could not have wished for a better person to guide us round the hangars than James. His knowledge proved encyclopedic. Providing new facts and figures to people who by nature of their interest and background have already a fairly extended knowledge of the subject is an achievement. We spent an excellent few hours in his company, and in an environment where all these illustrious aircraft we know so well, are worked on at touching distance. Be it the entirely newbuilding of Spitfire wings, or the overhaul of other components, it was absolutely fabulous to see. Also the presence of young chaps who, likely as apprentices, will learn a trade from scratch and later become highly sought after craftspeople was good to see. Writing about all this is one, trying to transfer a vibrant environment in sounds and eye candy is not really possible. If one wants to experience that, a visit tot he hangars is highly recommend, even if one is not an aircraft buff. The group had a great time and some of us will very likely return if not only for a flight. Many thanks to all at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar who have made our visit an absolute succes.
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to leave us such a comprehensive review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to welcoming you for a flight one day! With kind regards from the Heritage Hangar

A very important piece of our heritage. Not to be forgotten.
Just felt so privileged to be up close and personal to many famous aircraft. Austin, our guide was very knowledgeable and amazed us all with his stories an facts.. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to see this important piece of our heritage and the work being done to preserve these amazing planes. ( Not just Spitfires)
Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your tour with Austin. Perhaps we will welcome you back for a flight one day!

An absolute amazing experience - great from start to finish. We flew almost over my house and then down to Beachy Head where I was lucky enough to have a professional photographer on hand to take some brilliant pictures. The victory roll over the white cliffs during Battle of Britain memorable week really made my day!
My wife and friends joined me in the "van" which they loved so I'd also recommend paying extra for that. Everyone involved was super-helpful and, despite clearly spelling out the risks involved, made me feel very comfortable throughout.

I bought the 'Fly in a Spitfire' experience for my partner’s 60th Birthday. It was a surprise gift so he had no idea what he was doing until we got to the building and he kept seeing the name 'fly a spitfire' I think he started to guess then. Ray, Toby and the rest of the guys were just brilliant throughout the entire experience. You can tell the entire operation is very efficient but very friendly and accommodating. Ray was very personable in rearranging the flights due to the weather and he tried very hard to even get it done on his birthday but the weather won in the end :( but it all worked out as we got fantastic weather on the new date.

I read beforehand about the passenger ride but thought I'd skip it, I thought being on the ground would give me enough photos and videos. Toby explained that it really is a wonderful experience to be flying alongside the spitfire and the shots you get will be amazing. Let me be honest with you, it really was a fantastic experience for me being in the passenger plane, the best bit was the breakaway. Toby was not just giving me the sales talk, he really was honest when he said you'd regret not doing it. My advice is if you can please do the passenger ride. The footage you get really cannot compare to anything else and to see that happiness on their face is worth it. The video footage captured by the Spitfire and passenger plane were all clear and good quality and I should mention that this is all included in the price and not an additional cost. The Spitfire pilot Pete was so calm and friendly and I really appreciated him taking time after the flight to just chat with us and take pictures etc it's that going the extra mile as opposed to running off to the next customer. Oh and he got to do the victory roll twice so definitely chuffed with it :) Overall great experience and we'll definitely like to return and if lucky maybe do the Hurricane Experience next.

Thanks for the review. The airvan really does make it a fantastic experience for the friends and family. Sorry the weather caused some initial trouble but we're thrileed to hear you had a memorable flight. Please do come back for the Hurricane, it's a beautiful conversion and totally unique!

Nick Christian - "From an early age my interests in design and functionality zeroed me in on the Spitfire!

My life long passion to fly in one came to fruition on Saturday 19th September 2020.

Good weather, an early start and ‘Smithy’ (my Pilot) gave me a day that was beyond belief. The ground crew were fantastic and welcoming, my whole Family joined me up in the skies in the chase plane, and were able to fly next to me for the first 20mins in the air!

To carry out a victory roll salute in front of the memorial statue at Capel Le Ferne on such a special week was an overwhelming experience.

The whole day was spectacular and taking control of the fantastic XPA58 (AKA -Sharky) was something I will never forget.

Thank you Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger, Thank you Smithy and the professionalism the whole team showed us to make a dream come true."

I booked a formation flight for me and my brother to celebrate our birthdays. I booked it in August last year but by the time the day of our flight arrived my brother was in a Tier 3 area and we were all heading towards the second lock down. We have been looking forward to the flights since then and watching every Spitfire film and TV programme we could find. We love Spitfire's!

We live on one of your usual flight paths towards Capel-le-Ferne and have been watching lots of Spits in solo, formation and aerobatic mode overhead with ever growing anticipation. We were scheduled to fly last Wednesday but the clouds were gathering and the Fly A Spitfire team had to stand us down. By Friday the fog was hugging the cliffs of Dover but we could see that the weather was improving and we set off for Biggin Hill far too early. We welcomed to the Heritage Hangar and the whole team were brilliant. We had a lot of time to soak up the atmosphere and the fuel fumes.

As a special surprise for our family we also purchased the Skyvan escort and it was fantastic to see them beaming at us with both Spits hugging their wings. The other highlights were flying over our house in formation, the air show we gave to the crowds on Deal seafront and the opportunity to take the controls for a short but unforgettable time.

By the time we landed it was already well past 6pm but the team were incredibly attentive and Lawrie gave us an excellent guided tour of your Heritage Hangar and the workshop. Engineers were still popping rivets on a new wing skin at 7pm and we were properly looked after.

This has to be one of the best things anyone can do. I will have to do it again!

I booked the Spitfire flight for my husband's birthday on Friday and on the day chose to fly in the chaser plane. My husband says it was the best experience ever ( and he has done many) with the most exciting moments being him taking control of the plane for some time and of course the barrel role and victory role will stay with him forever. The weather was overcast but he felt this increased his understanding of war time heroes who flew in these planes. The pilot shared so much information and for me flying in the chaser plane it was unbelievable to see how close they flew to watch the rapid manoeuvres undertaken. It provided an opportunity for amazing photos too.

I decided it was time I flew a Spitfire, I live not far from Biggin Hill and Spitfires come close to my house several times a day. The whole experience was incredible. It started with a safety briefing explaining what was going to happen and the safe way to leave the aircraft should things go wrong! Then changed into flight overalls and met Don, my pilot. He explained the route and asked if I was ok with foing a victory roll, hell yeah! I was then strapped into the aircraft and we were ready to go. The sound and feel of the Merlin engine was fantastic, all 1000hp of it. Take off run was very short and quickly in the air. My flight took us to Beachy Head, I was given the controls for part of the flight there and back, I was surprised how responsive the aircraft was. Once over Beachy Head, Don performed 3 victory rolls, absolutely fantastic! Then return flight back to Biggin Hill. A very expensive day out but absolutely worth every penny, everyone should do it once in their lifetime.

Overall had a great day. A bit chaotic getting checked in with lots of people in the reception area. Seemed very busy. Staff were friendly. A bit of a hard sell on upgrading to getting my family to pay an extra £549 to go up in another plane to fly alongside, although we were glad we did do this, even though it was very expensive. Got sorted out with flying overalls and briefing video before going out to the plane. Getting strapped in was straightforward but the gentleman helping me had a lot of trouble getting the in cockpit cameras working (or not, as it turned out) . The flight was great. Fantastic views over the Kent countryside and toward London. Flew in formation with the chase plane for a few minutes before peeling off for a fly pass giving my family a chance to take pictures and some film footage. Took the controls for a chance to "fly a Spitfire". Did a couple of victory rolls which were very enjoyable and shouldn't be a worry to anyone a bit nervous. Really enjoyed the flight and especially the take off, victory rolls and landing. After the flight had a fantastic tour of the hangers with an enthusiastic gentleman who I could have spent hours with chatting amongst the planes, engines and assortment of memorabilia. Was really disappointed that one of the cameras in the cockpit hadn't worked. Was gutted when we got home and found the other had cut out 10 minutes into the flight and missed the best bits. Also the footage from the camera on the chase plane was distorted and wobbly. If we hadn't got some footage from our own cameras in the chase plane we would have had little to watch for the memories. As it is, we've only got 10 minutes of the Spitfire flying time on film which is mostly our own footage. Nothing of my taking the controls, the victory rolls or the landing. I suspect that the in cockpit cameras weren't charged up before the flight so one didn't work at all and one cut out not long after take off. Very disappointing. For the price paid, at least get the cameras working properly (can't take your own in the cockpit) or get some reliable ones. This took the edge off what was otherwise a great day.

A fantastic flight in Hawker Hurricane BE505 with pilot Anna Walker. What better way to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain than a flight in this unique aircraft from Biggin Hill. Had a great flight down to Beachy Head with the chance to take control of this beautifully restored aircraft. Anna then demonstrated the maneuverability of the aircraft with aerobatics and some very impressive tight turns.
I would highly recommend a flight in this Hurricane to anyone with a bucket shop wish to fly in a warbird.
The professionalism and friendliness of everyone I met was superb and added to the experience. And if you get to fly with fly with Anna Walker you will be in for a great flight, a privilege to fly with you.

I did the Spitfire flight to the White Cliffs of Dover on 20 August 2021. My pilot ‘Smithy’ met with my party beforehand and explained what would be happening during the flight. We were able to chat and learn some personal details which reassured us we were in capable hands.

Whilst we were waiting we were able to see the Hurricane and another Spitfire being prepared, taking off and landing. The occasion was smoothly and professionally managed.

My party was able to pay extra and follow part of the flight in another plane ‘the air van’ and take photographs of me in the Spitfire, it was probably about twelve feet between the planes!

On the way to Dover I was able to fly this magnificent plane, with ‘Smithy’ doing aerobatics along the White Cliffs. My thoughts turned to the young men all those years ago who must have been happy to see them returning home, and a sense of wonder and awe to learn the average age was 19. The bravery and skill of these young men was made more acute being in the plane.

After returning to earth, ( the plane, not me, I am still up there! ) we were able to take photographs next to the plane.

We later had a hangar tour and was able to get close and see and learn about other planes.

It was a thoroughly amazing, fantastic experience which will live in the memory for ever. I was even able to put a sticker in my car window to tell all and sundry now I had flew the Spitfire.

Thanks to all involved for making the day so special.

The white Cliffs of Dover is one of the most popular flights and you cannot help but connect with those brave young pilots who served during the war and particularly the Battle of Britain flights including those from here at Biggin Hill.

I have just fulfilled a boyhood dream of flying in a Hurricane and hopefully next year will return for a flight in a Spitfire. The pilot ,Don Sigourney, was absolutely superb and allowed me to have a while actually flying the Hurri. I am ex RAF and have flown in and had hands on experience of many aircraft but this rates with the rip I had in the BBMF Lancaster and so Spitfire next to complete the "Champions of the sky" trio. Darren, Ray and Laurie are all very knowledgable and so helpful with any issue at all. As they said "There are no stupid questions" I cannot recommend this adventure highly enough and would certainly say"Just go there and experience the flight of a life time. Many thanks to the crew at Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and hope to see you again next year. Per Ardua ad Astra
