We purchased some Stilton and was very disappointed in both product and high price.We are very proud of our beautiful shop...it's a family business and everyone is involved, including our sons and our elderly parents who look after our gorgeous garden. We have several cheeses on our counter that customers tell us they cannot purchase anywhere else....we try very hard to provide an old fashioned service. The young lady who from the receipt I believe was called Liz was very helpful and customer focused and a credit to the shop, unlike the elder one. We purchased a number of cheeses and the last one I was undecided about and asked if I too could sample this particular one The elder lady interjected "No, not at this time" to which I was stunned by her comment having some 5 mins earlier given others a sample. I am not sure if : 1.There is a cut off time for samples? 2. My appearance in a vest and t shirt was not suitable attire for your shop, or my skin tone and irish heritage? 3. My age as I have recently retired is against me? I have upload photo of the bag and receipt to prove this is not a fabricate review.Hello and thank you for your feedback. I am completely incredulous and shocked that you think you were treated differently because of your appearance, skin tone or Irish Heritage. We most definitely don't have a dress code and in all honesty, I am offended that you think we would be so judgemental and racist. We also, obviously, don't have an issue with age....I was quite surprised that you referred to one of my staff as elderly on a couple of occasions. All of the issues you have mentioned are not a problem with any of our staff, I am amazed at your accusations. Our shop closes at 5pm and from 4.30pm onwards, everything has been washed, cleaned down and sterilised. I'm afraid we can not offer samples after this time. Our staff work extremely hard all day and we feel it's not fair for them to be cutting cheese samples when they have cleaned down and are ready to close. I am sorry you were disappointed but I can assure you, this was not personal. The old cheese shop which is what they call themselves on their website just happens to be in Hartington. They're the manufacturers and main sellers of Hartington cheese ,and you can order it on line too. The shop on Hartington needs to change its signage it is deliberately misleading people . Was excited to find what seemed to be lovely cheese shop. My friend and I were the only customers in the shop. There were 2 shop assistants who actively ignored us even when spoken to directly and asked questions. The cheeses looked super and we were prepared to make a number of purchasers but as the shop assistants ignored us we reluctantly made one small purchase. Have yet to try the cheese but fear we may choke on it.

I am disappointed to read your review as we have so many positive comments about the shop and our staff. I can assure you that the staff that were in the shop on that day would not have ignored you intentionally, they are too experienced and professional for that. This is our family business and we go to great lengths to provide a good old fashioned service. I find your comment about choking on the cheese hurtful and unnecessary.

We ordered our wedding cheese cake from Hartington Cheese Shop. The staff couldn't have been more helpful - they helped us to choose which cheeses and in which order, and let us know when the order was ready to be collected. The cheese was INCREDIBLE and all of our wedding guests raved about it. They also offer a postal service, which was great for helping us try the cheeses as we live quite far away from Hartington. Can't recommend them highly enough. An excellent cheese shop!

Hartington is a beautiful place ,lots of shops and things to see if you walk around the village .
What I found misleading is the title of a particular shop ...Hartington cheese shop ....slightly misleading title suggesting that they are the main suppliers of Hartington cheese.

I am struggling to understand how "The Hartington Cheese Shop" could possibly be misleading. We are a cheese shop in Hartington....it couldn't be any clearer. We supply cheeses from The Hartington Creamery in our shop but these are only a small fraction of the cheeses on our counter. Friendly service and a great range of local cheese. A lovely little shop in the charming village of Hartington. Knowledgeable staff but not at all pushy. Could have spent a fortune but very happy with my selection, highly recommend the Hartington Stilton.

We enjoyed our visit. Friendly staff and friendly customers all chatting cheese (and caramelised onion chutney!) I visit often and always enjoy my choices. A lovely gem of a place and well worth the visit.

Had the misfortune to purchase a too good too go bag from the creamy all 2 months out of date and the most strange flavours chocolate and chilli for example it would have nice if 1 cheddar 1 Hartington Blue and may be another known cheese like Cheshire not 12 cheeses that are uneatable.

I Called in for a piece of cheese to try, asked for a small'ish piece of blue, the lady took the cheese into the back to cut a piece off but returned with a piece ready wrapped, saying we had this in the back, will it be ok. I said ok, got home threw it in the bin, it was stale & hard. She must have pulled it out of their bin.
