If you are considering a narrow-boat holiday, I highly recommend The Ashby Boat Company.
Julian and his team made us feel very welcome from the start. The boat was clean, well maintained, and the beds were very comfortable..
The 4 day trip up and down the Ashby Canal was a wonderful getaway from the noisy city. The scenery is lovely and it being lock-free makes it the perfect canal for a novice boater like myself.
Julion showed us "the ropes" patiently for a good hour or so before before we headed off on our own.
Thank you Julian and your team for a fantastic holiday.

We booked a day boat (Badger) for a family day out last weekend and from start to finish the whole experience could not be faulted. Julian was very pleasant and gave us all the information that we needed for our day. The boat was very clean and well equipped. We got as far as Market Bosworth to turn the boat, stopping for our picnic lunch before returning to Stoke Golding, enjoying the beautiful countryside and lots of wildlife on the way. The day was made even more perfect with glorious sunshine. Thank you Julian and the Asbhy boat company

Our 4th hire from Ashby Boats, the 2nd on Carlton. Excellent service, very clean and covid safe. We have always received a warm welcome from Julian and the team. Nothing is too much trouble. Carlton has been very reliable, some days running 10-12 hours between stops on our journey's around the Warwick Ring.
We have already booked for our next adventure in 2022.

A wonderful few days cruising the Ashby Canal thanks to the people at Ashby Boat Company. Our narrow boat, Carlton, was spotlessly clean, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, including sou'westers, which thankfully were not needed. Thanks to Julian and particularly Mark for showing us the ropes and giving us a thorough run through and guide before letting us loose on the canal.
If you are looking for a canal holiday I can highly recommend Ashby Boat Company. This was our first time hiring a boat for longer than a day the lock free Ashby Canal was an ideal place to start and the Ashby Boat Company couldn't be faulted.
First class boat and first class service.

We have hired 2 boats from Ashby Boat Co so far and will definitely use them again. Julian and all of the team are very professional but set out to ensure that from the moment you arrive till the moment you leave you have a great experience. If you have any issues during your trip they are just a phone call away and will make sure all is fine (we all make rookie mistakes when we are novices!) The boats are very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Do not hesitate to book with Ashby Boat Co.

What a Christmas..... Having hired from many other Narrowboat companies, Ashby Boats are by far the best company we have hired from. We decided to try a canal holiday over the festive season and thoroughly enjoyed every second. Julian and his team were very welcoming upon our arrival. Our boat Hawkesbury was the best boat we've ever come across, there was a lot of attention to detail. The beds were so comfortable with lovely bedding provided. The boat was very clean and tidy and well equipped for our family of 9. It was freezing on some days but the heating inside the boat was lovely and toasty. We had a fab Christmas and are looking forward to returning with Ashby again in May 22. We will now only be booking with Ashby boats from now on!!!!

We can't praise this company enough. From the word go we were met by the affable and kind Julian, who let us load our luggage on board while he prepared a tray of tea and coffees in cups and saucers on a tray outside the office ( all free of charge). Everything Julian did was designed to make our holiday a delightful experience. The boat was in immaculate condition and handled like a dream. We chose the vessel Hawkesbury (sleeps 8 but we were 4) and we took a delightful trip up the Coventry canal which astonished us with its beauty. We finished the trip by travelling up the Ashby canal and back on our last 2 days. Beds were comfortable, toilet never stank which was a first in our many years boating experience - the bathroom remained beautifully fragrant throughout the trip. Showering is a bit tricky - the shower space is narrow and we found it best to operate the pump while in the shower to avoid overflowing the shower basin. This is a normal experience on one of these holidays and Ashby have done their best with the space they have available (we actually had 2 shower rooms). A luxury bathroom experience is not really something you can expect on a boat. The boat is well provisioned in the kitchen section - two shiny modern kettles and a massive stainless steel casserole dish. The dining table is in two halves lengthwise which enabled us to keep one half in place throughout the trip. TV and radio functioned perfectly. All canal maps are provided on board. Central heating kept us cosy while steering crew kept dry from supplied waterproofs. Locks were in good condition on the Coventry and didn't give our elderly crew a problem (one is 86!!). Ashby canal is lock free. The company provides stakes and clips that make mooring straightforward. We would recommend taking waterproof trousers to enable clips to be put in place as the skipper has to kneel on the bank. (Actually we used our own home produced chains most of the time.) All in all we can't thank Ashby boats enough for a superb experience. We will definitely use them again and would be very happy to do the Coventry canal again (though the Oxford canal is also a nice option)

Booked via Hoseasons and we had a four day midweek break aboard Measham. It was excellent. The loading up was straightforward, we pulled up right to the boat and unpacked then left the cars about thirty yards away, we were not worried about it. The tuition and show round was thorough we cruised about a quarter of a mile south and turned round and headed back. Our tutor leapt off and we were away. A few bumps and skirmishes but it was great. Measham is a lovely craft, central heating! Beds made up, decent cooker and fridge/freezer. Managed to bake bread on a couple of days, but nothing better than tying up then sitting with a beer on a sunny deck. We went up to Snarestone and back in four days, not loads of miles but the beauty of canals is to go at your own pace and just enjoy yourself!

Hired ‘Mole’ out for the day with our 4 children and grandchild. We were beyond satisfied with the service. From booking to arriving was welcoming and our induction as beginners was good and informative. We didn’t quite reach market Bosworth but we did moor up to eat a picnic, turn around and head back.
It was very peaceful and funny due to the branch attacks! (This was the skippers excuse) We will definitely book again maybe for a bit longer and can not recommend this company enough. Thank you!

We contacted Julian early morning on 01/10/23 as we had hired day boat for day with another company who let us down night before the trip. I had family visiting from Canada and this was something we wanted to do as a family.
Julian was so wonderful and arranged for us to hire one of his other boats as his day boats were already booked.
It made our day and we had an amazing time, it had been 5 years since we had been together as a family so this experience will be with us for many years.
The boat was very clean and well equipped with everything you need for your trip.
Thank you again to Julian & Ashby boats we will certainly be retuning for another trip and recommend Ashby Boats if you are looking for day trip or longer trip.
