Fab visit made more special by the welcome and the quality of the wine. Informative mini tour and staff. Paul made this visit extremely easy. We don’t speak much Spanish so this Englishman gave us an English version of a mini tasting tour. Amazing building and cellar and history.

Excellent visit with Paul, very informative on local history as well as the wines and the philosophy behind them. A lovely spot definitely worth a visit if you are in the area to visit Cartoxia de Scala Dei (the monastery that gives the Priorat region its name). Wines are classic examples of the region made without too much interference from heavy oak.

We have visited Cellers de Scala Dei last week and it was great! Our really charming guide Paul has made a very exciting tour for us (even our children said it was good!). It is always great meeting somebody who really loves what he is doing.
Cellers de Scala Dei is the oldest winery and it was so interesting to know that the winery is still experimenting a lot with the ways of production, really great!
The wine tasting was lovely and the wines were tasty!

We loved how passionate and welcoming our guide was to Scala Dei. Firstly we walked up and into the vineyard which gave us a chance to appreciate the different terrain/soils. Coming back we had a trip around their winery following by a tasting outside. I liked their shop which had things in you didn’t even know you needed!!

Thank you for your review.
The morning you came to visit we were without power, hence the tasting outside rather than in the tasting room!
Our guides are all passionate about wine, and particularly Scala Dei wine.
We hope you and your group will return.

Loved the winery and tour. We tasted 8 wines, including some of the specialty wines. The tour of the oldest winery in the region was fascinating, including seeing some of the very old wines.
There were a lot of old wine making tools that added historical value. A really fun trip and a great guide through the winery.

Late post...My friends and I stayed a few days in Barcelona and were told to explore the Priorat wine region. Before arriving, I did much research about the area and which winery to visit. I quickly learned that visiting wineries is not like my experiences in Napa, Sonoma, Hunter Valley nor Virginia wine country. You can not just drive up, walk in and ask for a tasting. Many of these wineries are small, family-owned and run and are not really tech savvy within the internet world.
After ready about Scala Dei info on their simple website, I wrote them. I received an email from Yuri explaining the fees, dates and times available. We confirmed and once on holiday we ventured to attend our appointment. The drive to the winery was curvy with a spectacular vista. Upon arrival at the vintage and intimate building within a small plaza, we were greeted by Yuri. He greeted us and another couple and so began our private tour.
Tour started at the beautiful dark tasting room in which I felt like a monk while admiring the historical decor and walls. He took us around to the cellar and the operational areas explaining how each year during harvest, and only a limited amount of bottles are made annually. This place is truly special yet it is run by a small group of people, so have patience because it is worth it. This is the oldest cava winery in the region. Yuri was delightful and after a reservation mishap, he was still able to take us on tour.
We were so pleased with the visit and hope to return again real soon! Salud.

The Scala dei wine, cradle of Priorat wine, we present 4 wines from our tasting
The secret of these wines lies in the géologique charactéristique of the area, protected to the northwest by the Serra de Montsant Most of the vineyards are planted at high altitude, with climatic characteristics that make Escaladei a privileged place for growing the Garnacha variety.

Cellers de Scala Dei is the oldest wine cellar in the area. We've done the visit with Diego, totally recommendable. He explained to us the story of the cellar and the area, and you can see how they've evolved from the traditional ways of making wine, to more modern ways. Always keeping quality as a must.

Hi Dove Franco, I would like to know how do you arrange the visit. Do you email them to book the visit ? How do you get there from your hotel ? Thanks for sharing in advance.

Agree its best to also use a local agency to book for you as they have good relations with the wineries
