Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff is very experienced and managed to find the best spot to have a great view of the Northern Lights. Although weather and clouds are beyond control. we were lucky and managed to enjoy the best of the Aurora. Amazing tour!

Amazing experience! Our guide Sara Brockmann was very friendly and helpful with everything. With her help, we managed to take a lot of fabulous pictures of the northern lights. She provided us with a lot of information regarding the culture and was very communicative and made our experience very precious. Sara easily found the best spot to experience the northern lights.

Sach was the best tour guide ever. Took us all to the best spots to see the lights and oh damn did we see some. It was a breathtaking experience especially standing over a frozen lake and seeing the lights dance above you in the sky. He explained to us all out doubts and talked to us throughout the way and everything was on time and just absolutely perfect. Would recommend this to everyone and a must visit tour if you ever visit Abisko! 10/10

My friend and I recently had exceptional tour experiences. We were very grateful for our tour guide, Sara, who was very knowledgeable about Sami culture and photography. We were able to get very good pictures with the auroras, which we will keep as good memories from our time in Abisko.
Beware of frozen lakes!

This was an incredible experience, made even better by the fact that the aurora put on quite the show for us! Our guide, Sarah, was amazing at multitasking - teaching us about the lights, Swedish culture, helping with photography, taking amazing photographs for us to remember the night, keeping our teepee warm, and keeping us warm with delicious lingonberry juice! It is a night I will never forget!

The whole experience was incredible. Sarah was an amazing tour guide and also had so many photography tips as well as taught us about Swedish and Sami culture. She deserves a raise!!!! I loved my trip.

We had an amazing trip with Claudio! We were getting into the airport later than most tours started, so he was able to pick us up, take straight on an adventure to see the lights, and then to our hotel when we were done. He explained so much of the city to us and was a great guide. We saw the lights (thanks to warm coveralls and a little fire and warm drink - temp was -17 or so Fahrenheit). And then on the way back Claudio saw the sky dancing again so he pulled over and we saw even more.

Hello Jennay!
Thanks for your interest in Lights Over Lapland! I am sorry to say that dogs are not allowed on any of our adventures. We have made this choice as it is often too cold to keep your furry friend warm and happy. In addition, we have to think about our other guests who may be allergic. We are dog lovers ourselves and have a black Lab that is part of the family so we would loved to have said yes. We hpe that you understand our position and that you still choose to join us in Abisko.
Thanks agian and best of luck during your adventure!
Hi
Planning to visit in December , can do either 1st week or 2nd week . Is there any recommendation on which will be better out of the two weeks from NLs prospective
Also I saw on your site that one has to walk for 2km in snow - how difficult is that while I have no issues walking , I have no experience of snow or such low temperatures
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Lights Over Lapland. 1st or 2nd week of December makes no difference statistically. It really depends on weather and aurora activity in space so we do not have good forecasts until about 3 days in advance. If you come for a 4 night visit though, you always have very good chances of seeing something while you are here! If you check out our Customisable Aurora Photo Holidays on our website, we have a great discount for single travelers right now (until the end of this week).
We usually walk much less than 2km at the time, but the furthest away location we have is approximately 2km. However, this path would be plowed so will be easy to walk. Most of our locations are closer by, so we usually walk for about 15 minutes each direction. Mostly, there is a well defined path to follow but it can get slippery at times. Deep snow is only a problem a couple of times per season if we get a large dump of snow the same day. Since Abisko is located in a rain shadow we rarely get more than a couple of centimiters of snow at a time.
I hope this information helps, just let me know if you have any further questions or check out our website for more information.
Thanks,
/Linnea
Hello Minnie! We always recommend the STF Abisko Touriststation or the Abisko Mountian Lodge. Both hotels are lovely and have a great staff - you will not be disappointed :)
I might be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain Lights Over Lapland uses the STF Abisko Mountain Station (also called Abisko Turiststation) as their meeting point for their nightly Northern Lights tours. They have a fairly large lobby area where guests can get in and out of their cold weather gear easily. If you book a 4 night Aurora tour with Lights Over Lapland, the STF is where they will lodge you.
We are planning a visit to Abisko in the second week of November. Just want to ask how many days will be sufficient enough at Abisko? We will be travelling from tromso and going to move further from Abisko to Rovaniemi. Also would like to know if 10yrs old child will be comfortable and safe enough to do a northern lights tour( provided she is all geared up appropriately). Thanks in advance
Abisko is a fantastic choice. We did 4 nights and did not see much one of the nights. You will be amazed and want to spend as many nights as possible viewing the lights. Can't answer about the child. If you do photo tours, you are out for 4-5 hours at a time and it does get very cold on hands and feet.
I am planning a trip to see the Northern Lights in 2019. I can go any time-so am wondering when clear skies are more likely: Jan, Feb or Mach.. I know nothing is a sure thing, but would love to hear your opinion-thank you for any input! I have read Abisko has more cloud free nights so that is the location I’m looking at, though I had really, really wanted to go to Tromsø, so am would love to hear what you think of that too.
We just got back from both Tromsø and Abisko. We were lucky to see the lights in both places. It is all a matter of luck honestly. Even if there is a cloudy day or night don’t get discouraged. Most of the company’s will travel further out to find clear skies. I recommend you stay in either place at least 3-4 nights for a better chance. On our trip the lights in Tromsø were the best. We used a company that took us about an hour out of the city. It was a true solar storm! We went March 1-12. Good luck!
I am going on the 4 night tour and saw that the company provides coveralls for warmth but I was wondering how to dress for daytime excursions. Do the temp at the end of feb during the day require more than a down ski jacket? planning to carry on luggage so any packing tips from past travelers here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, LK
Hello! A down jacket and some ski pants are great for the daytime activities but many people also choose to wear the overalls during the day as well depending on what temperature it is. You will receive a packing list together with your itinerary approximately 6 weeks before arrival if you are booked on one of our packages, but it can also be found on our website if you click on FAQ in the top menu. Thanks and look forward to seeing you soon!
Hi Ahmed,
We usually recommend that you stay in the area for at least four nights to maximise your chances of seeing the aurora borealis. We have many different trips available, some include accommodation and other do not. If you check our website you can find aurora holidays which include accoommodation and food as well as activities. Thanks!
