Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not many people, and only those who are native or lived here will know about Nojiri Lake. I found this area on Google Map and found it to be very unique thus, book a night stay in Guesthouse Lamp hostel.
It's a charming little lake town with mountains surrounding it on all sides. The lake was foggy during sunrise and snowy morning, and I caught a great moment by the lake.
This lake have pre-historic values which made it so much more unique and was also formed due tp a volcano eruption in the ancient time.
Naumann elephant was found here. You can visit the museum dedicated to it.
They have sightseeing boats which will brings you around and also to the little island in the middle of the lake where a shrine was built on.
Overall, there are so much in such a little town.

Lake Nojiri is a beautiful relaxing place to holiday for the Japanese Summer and Winter. There are plenty of water activities on the Lake and lots of walks and places of interest nearby.
My family love the close proximity to at least four excellent ski resorts in Winter.
There are plenty of choices for eating and snacking in Summer but dining options by the Lake are limited in Winter. There is an excellent 7 eleven convenience store minutes from the Lake for any meals or staples however and other options heading back to Nagano which is about 25 mins by car.

The lake is in a perfect position to take in the views of Mt Myoko and the surrounding Alps. We went on the cruise which was a great way to spend an hour looking around the lake and going onto the island in the middle which has a temple on it. There are also carp which you can feel, look out for the white one as she is special and loves a pat. Don't miss this opportunity.

Actually, I grew up spending summers at Lake Nojiri and am partial to the site for many reasons. It's a great lake to swim in. It's a wonderful place to hike - around the lake, or in the surrounding mountains.. We boated on the lake in the afternoons - and learned how to sail here. The main village has a ferry, paddle boats, and some good restaurants in the summer season. The fireworks are fabulous. There are nearby hot springs, called "onsen" in Japanese. You can easily ski in the winter. Nature at it's best. There's an island in this lake with a shrine on it worth visiting..

What is not to love about this beautiful slice of heaven? So much to do! Every season is magical. Swimming, sailing, skiing, snow-shoeing, tennis, hiking, kayaking, fabulous food (Japanese, Italian, French) and fresh seasonal veggies and fruits abound. Reasonable accommodation. Beautiful scenery. Easy access from Tokyo. Rent a car to maximize your stay.
