Pilli Pipa is an accredited PADI Dive Resort under the name of Firefly Ocean Camp, registration number s22994. We have up to date diving equipment which is replaced regularly. We have excellent dive gear imported and replaced regularly. Contrary to what one reviewer, Roadsmoretravelled, November/December 2013, has falsely put on a review. He did not come on our dhow but was probably told by the Shimoni hotel he stayed at that he was going with Pilli Pipa. We do not dive in 1 or 2 metres of water and we do not have shocking equipment.

If you want a wonderful diving experience with professionals, book with Harm Lutjeboer, Pilli Pipa Dhow Safari, PADI and Naui registered, dive base, Firefly Ocean Camp in Shimoni. Not based at Shimoni Reef Lodge.

We also take snorkellers to the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park for an exciting adventure followed by lunch at Pilli Pipa on Wasini Island.

Cool day from start to finish - great service from the moment we stepped onto the dhow, where complimentary refreshments were provided all day. A pod of dolphins swam around the boat for a while as we headed out to the snorkelling site (Scuba is also available). While snorkelling we saw giant turtles, barracuda, sting rays, lobster and a wide... More

We had a great day on the boat, we loved the snorkelling and saw loads of large turtles, colourful fish and stingrays! The staff on the boat were very friendly and informative about the wildlife and provided us with plenty of nice drinks and snacks. The food in the restaurant was nice although we didn't like the fact that the... More

I will forever savour the moment of seeing the corals, got to see the dolphins and ocean is amazing. The fear of the ocean is now gone, the guides were professional and did make some good jokes while on board the dhow. Lunch was great loved the crab sauce and sea weed. Snacks were in plenty. Thank you Pili Pipa team... More

It's an amazing experience...... I was a bit skeptical about the experience, but I was wrong. We were collected from our hotel in South Coast Diani at 7.15 am and were driven for one and a half hour to Shimoni, where we were well received and ushered into their Dhow. The dhow is powered by an engine and has refreshments... More

That's fantastic, having a good experience as first time snorkellers is important. If you don't get the right guidance from the beginning one could be put off trying again. So glad that you enjoyed the day and got something out of it. More

We were sold this trip by Virgin holidays, but when the car picked us up at 6 in the morning and said it's a 2.5hr trip to the boat I nearly turned around and went back to bed! 5hr return journey in a car on holiday is not my idea of fun. But the journey through Mombasa was interesting, the... More

So glad you had a great time. You obviously have a sense of fun and adventure. I often find it irritating when people complain about the long ride from Mombasa or Diani. I have been living here for years but I still find the journey to Shimoni interesting, there is so much to see on the way. Live life and... More

My friend and I took a day trip with Pilli Pipa and we had a blast. Our driver was on time and really friendly and informative. The boat trip was well ran and organized. I decided to scuba dive, i went with the dive master (Ben) who was really awesome. I saw so many fish and eels, sea turtles and... More

Equipment could be newer and less worn; the seafood lunch could contain some fish, octopus and shrimps not only crabs (I think for $135/pp we could expect that!), the transportation from Diani hotels is in a worn and old minibus without an AC (and it's 1.5 hrs drive), the boat itself could be better maintained and less gross. But overall... More

On March 30th I wrote a response to your review, giving our email address and asking if you could let us know who you booked with as it doesn't sound as though you came to Kisite with Pilli Pipa Dhow. Your description of a boat that is not well maintained and gross definitely does not corrolate with our two dhows,... More

A very professionally run outfit who have two quite large dhows (with engines!). They offer both divers and snorkelers two sessions one of 1 hour and the other 45 minutes duration followed by a nice lunch (included) on an island (Wasini). They even cater for very weak swimmers who hang onto a ring and are towed around by a guide... More

I booked a snorkling tour with Pilli Pipa and it was fantastic. I was picked up from Diani and was driven to Shimoni (drive took 1,5h). We got on the boat and then we set off to the reefs close to Wasini island. We had a whole crew and the guides were very friendly, informative and helpful. I really enjoyed... More
