We were on our way to see the Botanical gardens of crete and decided to throw in an extra stop. Well several stops in fact as trying to find this proved a little difficult as we were taking the road through Galatas down from the Platinias Beach without going on the National Road. Interestingly enough This does have the feel... More

Many may say it is just a tree, it might be true, but it has survived all sorts of events throughout its existence. The locals have a huge respect for the olive trees, they depend on them. preserving such old tree is important. It is magnificent to observe how nature has adapted to time. The taverna will have some of... More

I had heard about this tree and the accompanying taverna and spring water and thought that it was a must see on our drive to Elafonissi. It's not that easy to find, as there are few signs that are subtle, but they do direct you to the tree from the main road if you are looking for them. After finding... More

We didn't have any trouble finding this tree because our bus tour to Elafonissi Beach stopped at Skapanis Taverna, which is where the tree is located. The whole area is replete with tall trees, and the taverna is very quaint and filled with reasonably priced and delicious food items. I never would have found this place by myself and I'm... More

Great taverna close by, beautiful location, fascinating tree and very photographic. We only found it by chance by reading the guidebook.

We rented a car so we were free to drive around the island and we decided to try and find this amazing tree. We drove by the first time, as it's not that easy to find and there wasn't anyone there to ask. But we managed to find it. We only stayed there for 15 minutes and didn't go to... More

Were recommended to see this tree by Manolis from the Skapanis Taverna (see separate review) and he showed us how to get there from the Lassithi Plateau. The tree is at the back of the village but is well worth finding. It has been well cared for and currently they are putting in a platform around the tree to make... More

The Plane tree is an amazing sight. You can get up close to it - plenty of photo opportunities! It situated in an olive grove with a taverna. It's very peaceful (not many visitors) and the taverna owners very friendly (limited English spoken). If you are in the area this is an interesting sight to see and a great place... More
