A great half day visit but a good level of fitness is required to take everything in. The museum at the top of the hill was very informative - particularly the 5 minute film that gave you a feel of how things must have been in Roman times. Overall pleased we went but wondered how they handle the disabled visitor?

Most complete Roman fort in Britain, offering a glimpse into how the Romans lived here. Grounds include interpretive centers for a background and then a walk around the fort itself. Also access to walk on a section of Hadrian's Wall. Coupled with the recently uncovered 'postcards' at the British Museum in London, gives a real taste of what life was... More

We took the opportunity to visit hadrian's wall and went to Housestead on the recommendation of a few people. It is well set up. There is a little walk from the car park to the wall but seems a good place to appraciate the wall and it's history. There is a museum (we didn't go in) and the remains of... More

Be prepared for a climb and brace yourself at the top if theres a wind blowing. Hardy chaps those Romans. Plenty to see though. small museum with hot chocolate available and a brief film show.

My only gripe here was the 'double whammy' of entry fee, plus parking fee. However it didn't detract from a very interesting visit. English Heritage and National trust members get free entry. The entrance building sold momentos and literature, and you could get hot drinks, snacks etc. there alsoThe fort itself is about half a mile's uphill walk from the... More

We've been to a number of places along Hadrian's Wall but never to Housesteads until now, and it didn't disappoint. Even in ruin, it's amazing to see how much work the Romans must've put into this fort and all that went on in it, and in such a harsh environment (the site is on a slope for a start!). It's... More

The day was cold, foggy and overcast and made for a Great Wall walk experience. No one else on the trail. Good explanatory boards at the museum on the history of the wall, fort, construction and life during Roman times.

Ive wanted to see Hadrian's Wall since I was old enough to read. My visit at this location was great. Visiting the wall and the Roman Fort and watching the doco in the museum really allowed my imagination to run wild with what life as a Roman soldier on the edge of the world would of been like. Be ready... More

Visited on a snowy winter morning and was well impressed. This place is 1000s of years old and stunning The walk up is about 15 mins then there's a small museum and the fort. You can really make out the fort and picture what it would have been like The walk on Hadrians wall was cool too. Would certainly recommend
