We visited on a cold, wet and windy day but this is an amazing slice of history that dates back 2000 years. Walking in the footsteps of the Romans was a real treat. The site is dog friendly and we had a great time.

Called here and very pleased we did. What an impressive fort. It's compact but plenty to see. There is a catch however. There's a steep climb to get up there. Wouldn't recommend it for pushchairs or if you not clever on your pins. Nice museum at top. But well worth looking around. Great communal toilet block. However when you go... More

Large Roman fort with an exhibition and information panels available. Fantastic views and you can also walk to Sycamore Gap from the fort. Car park is a bit pricey but you can use the ticket at some other car parks along the wall.

Friendly and informative. It's a National Trust and English Heritage site. Views are amazing. It is a good information centre. Parking is £4.00, the machines do not take cards or notes. Your parking ticket, will then allow you to park on other sites. Well worth a visit.

This is an amazing place, and there's lots to see. The scenery is stunning, though quite desolate, and I felt sorry for those Roman soldiers who had to brave the elements there nearly 2,000 years ago! The museum is very well done, there's lots to see, and an audio visual presentation which gives you a good background to the place.... More

We visited on a cold January day and found the museum an inviting and very interesting place. The Roman Fort itself occupies a stunning position and it was most exhilerating to explore the well preserved remains and to imagine how folk use to live here. There is something here to interest people of all ages.

We went to Vindolanda last year so decided to give Housesteads a go. The facilities here are a bit sparse. Very self serve on the catering front. After you pay your money you leave the entrance building and see just how far you have to walk to the camp. It nearly killed me! First you walk down then its all... More

Loved this site; although it was cold, being in January and sleet threatened, the sun came out and illuminated the beautiful and majestic surrounding Northumberland countryside. The ruins were amazing to see and the Museum interesting with friendly, helpful staff. It has been a desire of mine to see Hadrian's Wall for many years and this was a great point... More
