Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Got a personal tour of this lovely house and grounds... many original pieces still available to see...amazing ceilings, also original. Amazing to see a place with so much of the original furniture, artwork, flooring, and even the inner walls of the cooking fireplace. Amazing!

From my perspective, this is one museum that should not be missed by anyone that comes to Tunja, since it has some of the best kept ceiling paintings from the XVI and XVII centuries, plus other important museum pieces from the XVIII and XIX centuries.

The 16th-cent. ceiling paintings in this home pre-date those found in the Casa del Fundador Gonzalo Suarez Rendon, which is around the corner. The humanist themes--including cavemen, wild animals and mythology--add complexity to our understanding of the first European inhabitants of this area. You simply can't see this type of artwork anywhere else in the country. The home also contains a beautiful courtyard and a small religious art collection from the colonial era. The tour guide on site only speaks Spanish, so contact the tourist office if you want an English-speaking guide. Well worth the COP$2.000 admission fee. Closed Mondays.

I thought it was a nice place but the tour guide just rushed us through the whole thing in 15 minutes and it could have taken an hour to really see everything and have it explained. Enchanted 2022 the price of admission and tour is 5,000 pesos

Beautiful palace house, full of treasure chests of various epochs and cultures such as Arabic, Castilian and Indian Chibcha. Space to feel and enjoy history and culture.

once we actually got in to see the place, i really enjoyed it. but we had 2 days of frustration trying to catch it when it was open. the firs day, we got there at 330pm and it was supposed to close at 4pm, but the people inside were already locking up (!) and leaving for the day and then we came back 2 days later when it was supposed to be open at 9am and it didn't open until a little after 10am. kind of frustrating so if you see the door is open-don't wait! walk through and do it right away! part of the problem is probably has to do with the tour being escorted-you have to go with the guide who also appears to be the only one working the ticket window, so not an efficient system. the lady we had walked us through all the rooms and explained everything-most impressive were the murals-made with egg whites and other organic material and dyes-that were painted in the 1500s and are still clear as day today! wow. and it was fun to see how the artist depicted animals from africa that he'd never personally seen-like rhinos and elephants that take on a mystical bend. some other creatures as well and then there's greek mythology mixed in-hercules looking very cave-man-esque and also some greek gods. just all over the place. furniture was fun to see, too. but yeah, don't trust the hours on the city website! or to be sure arrive at 10am or at 2pm, because it think there may be a break for lunch, too.
