We were in Scotland recently and stayed at Loch Awe, one of trips was into the depths of the Cruachan Power Station which is situated inside a hollowed out black granite mountain. The tour was amazing and very interesting

We had a lovely visit to this amazing place. The visual photos of how they built it and the commentary was very interesting. They also had a bus which took you up into the damn.

Decided to bring my kids along as I had worked down the tunnel 20 years ago as an apprentice , my Dad also worked at cruachan for 25 years. My kids adored it and we will be back lots , great prices and lots to keep the kids entertained ! Well done for having such a great visitor centre .

Straight out of a James Bond Film Set!! Informative visitor attraction then a bus trip 1 mile under Ben Cruachan to the Underground Power Station. Wonderful example of British Engineering.

This was a very interesting tour albeit rather short but the brevity was more than made up for by the highly entertaining guide. Is it possible for the digging of tunnels and generation of electricity to be made hilarious? Well hats off to Ian, because he certainly did just that. Well worth a visit!

Cruachan was the first pumped storage power station in the UK. Commentary on the visit was informative but I did feel as if I was being talked down to at times. However, since some visitors are kids or people or for whom English is not a first language, this is probably inevitable. The visitors' centre has a nice coffee shop... More

A very interesting place to visit. Had never been in a power station before and was interesting to see and hear how it all works. The staff is very friendly and the tour guide brings his talk in a very entertaining way. The tour itself is a bit short, but as it is a working power station I understand access... More

We visited here in July we were joined on the bus by 4 others. Stupidly I had neglected to realise the world has gone health and safety mad,and was comparing this visit to my first visit 30 years ago,and my second visit in the late 80's! It was rather disappointing we drove a little vary into the mountain and basically... More

Educational and enjoyable at the same time. Certainly worth a detour to visit. Cafe serves good plain food, too.
