About
Arduaine is a wonderfully moist and mossy coastal garden, influenced beneficially by the North Atlantic Drift and enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over the world. Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine.

    Panoramic viewpoint
This garden is a delightful mix of the formal and informal. Parts of the garden were out of bounds. A recent storm had caused damage to some trees and they had been logged pending disposal. This has left a more open landscape which has allowed the rhododendrons to flourish. The viewpoint is well worth a visit. The panoramic view over the Sound of Jura is stunning. We were lucky enough to see a Great Northern Diver from this vantage. There are no cafe facilities but refreshments may be obtained from the adjacent hotel.

    Pleasant garden
It is National Trust, so entrance is free with the card, otherwise £14 entrance fee. Took us an hour for a slow walk, but we could have spent longer. Very very nice (despite in places a few bare patches that could have done with something being planted in them). I particularly liked the phormiums in an almost woodland setting. I wouldn't say come here especially, but worth a stop if passing.

    Amazing garden with coastal views
This is a really special garden with great variety in the more formal parts and large woodland walks areas. A particularly highlight is the coastal viewpoints where you can just sit and take it all in. A visit takes about 2 hours and I recommend strong walking shoes as it is large and the walks can be on uneven ground. Highly recommended.

    Beautiful garden and idyllic location
This is a really lovely garden with excellent viewpoints allowing wonderful panoramas of the islands. We spent a whole morning here admiring the lovely ponds, trees and plants. We will definitely come back in Spring and early summer to view the rhododendrons. There are plenty of seats in the garden, but no cafe. The Melfort hotel is just a short walk away and teas and coffees are available there. Recommend.

Lovely garden with reveals as you follow the path
We decided to visit here as NT members and so pleased we did. It was a lovely sunny day and all the plants looked beautiful. We enjoyed the viewpoints and sitting a while by the pond to watch the dragonflies. Twists and turns in the footpaths reveal different sections of the garden that all delight. Staff friendly and I thought it must be a joy to work here. Hotel next door afterwards for tea was good too.

Although the gardens closed early (12.00) due to expected strong winds we did enjoy our short walk around. The viewport is well worth visiting as the view is amazing.

We were a bit late for the rhododendrons and other flowers hadn’t yet got going.
It’s a lovely walk round and the views are stunning.
Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
Beware of the midges!

The combination of the location with magnificent views over Loch Melfort and the great variety of plants plus gardening creativity creates an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended.
Make sure you arrive before 4 pm, because that is last entry time. The park closes at 5.

What should have been a 4-5 star visit was marred by a huge amount of tree felling in the upper part of the garden. The area was messy; full of felled tree trunks and there was no explanation of what was going on given in the garden, although I now read online that disease and storm damage necessitated the felling. Suggest the upper part should have been cleared fully before being opened and explanation given.

Such a shame as the main (lower) part of the garden was excellent. Garden was well maintained with beautiful and interesting trees/ plants in a stunning setting.

One of oir main reasons for staying in Loch Melfort hotel was to visit the Arduaine gardens but we found out when we arrived that the gardens had been closed since sept 2021 and woukdnt open till late summerr due to maintenance work.. surely rhey could have worked riund and isolated the parts needing work done.? .. There were a a lot of disappointed faces at the entrance.
