Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The facade is beautiful and the grounds are lovely to walk around. There is a nice walk by the river. The entrance gate is impressive with stone lions above you guarding the road. The Abbey is now a college and some modern buildings have been added which detract from the picturesque nature of the building but it is still well worth paying a visit.

Would recommend this venue for any gathering. Beautiful building and setting with ample car parking. Donna and her team were well organised, friendly and helpful. We had a funeral tea here last week and were well catered for and looked after admirably.

Just a very nice venue for any occasion.

The grounds surrounding Newbattle Abbey College are spacious. Lord Ancrum's Wood and the South Esk river run through or alongside the grounds of the property, and there are many walking trails that are family friendly and dog friendly along the river. Peaceful and pretty greenery. There are no public toilet amenities in the grounds or woods. There is lots of parking though and a bus stop at the front gate, as the train station is a 28-30 minute walk.

Hello Hannah! We have discussed the need for public toilets, specially now that our Woodland Ranger is organising activities for the community. It will definately happen at some point in the future, but we need to get some funding. For now we will have to wait but fingers crossed!

Not only is this a beautiful building with many lovely archetectural features - oak stairs, panelled ballroom, amazing crypt.
But there is also a wealth of history from the writing of the Declaration of Arbroath through the Second World War training and the ground breaking education for all of more modern times - Edwin Muir and George Mackay Brown were both here.
It is a lovely and rewarding visit. Check the tour times.

We had a small family celebration for my parent's 50th anniversary at Newbattle Abby which was a HUGE success. We found everyone extremely friendly and helpful - Miriam organised it all smoothly, Stuart provided a ton of delicious food, Elaine (catering) and Elaine (reception) were both lovely. All the staff did a great job. To round it all perfectly, Eric gave us a tour of the building and an insight into its varied history. Would recommend highly.

5 of us attended a two day conference at Newbattle Abbey College and stayed over in the student accommodation. Venue was stunning both inside and surrounding grounds. Accommodation was clean and more than adequate. En-suite rooms with towels, toiletries, tea and coffee facilities supplied for a very reasonable price. Office staff very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Newbattle Abbey College if your in the area. We also booked a table at the Sun Inn a few miles away - go - you won't be disappointed.

We held our wedding ceremony inside the abbey/small chapel.

The venue is a perfect setting for a small ceremony they also have larger rooms if required.

We also hired a harpist which went done well.

All the staff go above And beyond.

Well done and thank you for the great service provided.

Our guests couldn’t believe we are lucky to have such a beautiful abbey on our door step.

Regards Keith & Binxu
