- J D P122 contributionsLots and Lots to see. This is the second time I have visited and I would not hesitate to return for a third time there is so much to see. My only negative comment is that being of a certain age a great majority of the information is in print too small to read at the distance it is displayed. Maybe this could be considered whenever the displays are updated.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 September 2023
- hertfordshazHertford, United Kingdom130 contributionsGreat day out for wet weatherExcellent day out and perfect for a wet or cold day. We spent about 6 hours there but really could have done 2 days to take it all in. It was very well presented with something for everyone. I particularly liked the information on how the women contributed to the war effort and what was happening on the home front as well as on the battlefields. We will definitely come again if we are in that area.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2023
- Nikki BAberdare, United Kingdom54 contributionsReally interesting. Well worth the entry fee.We love museums, particularly anything WWI and WWII so this was a must visit. We weren’t disappointed. It’s absolutely jam packed with interesting information and memorabilia. I was particularly moved, as the granddaughter of a Bevin Boy, to see their wartime efforts acknowledged and celebrated. I have also been involved with a local history project back home in Wales, and was able to find out more information about HMS Glorious, the ship where two men from our village were killed. The museum is really well organised, and planned. There are so many little touches that make it feel authentic. The pumpkin spiced cake was delicious and everything in the gift shop was reasonably priced. My only criticism of the gift shop would be the lack of books…it just feels like a missed opportunity. Overall, I’d definitely recommend the museum. I’m only giving 5 stars because 6 is not an option.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 September 2023
- David Roy PBatemans Bay, Australia621 contributionsAmazing MuseumWe had never heard of Eden Camp before our Host at our B&B in Whitby recommended it to us . About a 25 minute drive from Goathland . The Camp was a 2nd World War , Prisoner of War Camp . It has been converted to a Museum and educational facility . Each of the many Huts that formally held POW's have been converted to show all of the many stages of WW2 and beyond . Starting from Hut1 - The Rise of Hitler . Some of the Huts have very realistic displays such as Hut 5 The Blitz Experience . Hut 29 - The Chapel is a very moving experience . We wholeheartedly recommend everyone to visit this site .Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 September 2023
- Danem45United Kingdom140 contributionsA very enjoyable day out!My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit. The site was well laid out and immaculately maintained. There is an abundance of information to absorb and the staged scenes were interesting and very atmospheric. There was something there for everyone. We also found the staff to be very pleasant, friendly and helpful. We cannot understand the reviews complaining about the school children on their educational visits. Yes, there were lots of children there but we found it easy to just skip some of the exhibits if they were full and go back to them when they were quieter. The website also does advise visitors of an appropriate time to visit if you wish to avoid the school trips. We also disagree with those who claim that the cafe is overpriced and poor quality. We have just spent a week on holiday in Yorkshire and I can honestly say that we have paid more for less in other places in the area. We found the coffee very nice and the food was tasty. Well worth the trip.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023

Excellent examples of years gone bye and trials and tribulations people had to go thru in Britain during the bombings also the endurance men on the front line during the wars were against So many wars portrayed at eden camp especially the one people didnt know much about .Korea . Japanese didnt take the red cross seriously we cam see and treated POWs absolutely horrendously A 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ site and worth every penny paid to go around site ..a good 2 to 3 hours of historyVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- MackemCouple82Sunderland, United Kingdom86 contributionsWhat a fabulous placeIt’s been over 20 years since we were last here, and I was looking forward to seeing how much it had changed . I didn’t expect that it had changed so much for the better. Every hut tells its own story of a part of WW2, and it tells it very well. It even goes so far as the sounds and the smells of the time . It’s just an amazing place to visit, and it tells a story that needs to be told, and one of a time that seems we haven’t learned from. You need to visit this pls s as soon as you can.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 October 2023
- Steve WChester, United Kingdom11 contributionsExcellent. Great value and well worth a visit.I had somewhat limited expectations but it was actually brilliant. We spent four hours here and I could go back again tomorrow. We all know a lot of the facts about WW2 but the real life personal stories bring it all to life.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023
- Goldcat55 contributionsGreat apart from school kidsThis was a return visit for our family and we were impressed with the new additions. The information was presented really well and the whole family engaged. Cafe was warm and spacious which was welcome on a wet day. Attraction is dog friendly too which is really helpful. Would have been five star review if not for swarms of unruly school children. Difficult to read information when surrounded by crowds of noisy kids. Understand and support need to take children there and to educate them about this period of history, but numbers should be restricted for sake of other visitors.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- lancslass34Preston, United Kingdom53 contributionsFab place shame about one school tripAmazing please we enjoyed it so much I didn’t really know what to expect but it was really good and so informative. The only issue and I have not taken a star off as it is not Eden camps fault was a very unruly school trip. Most of the school kids there were fine but one trip had the teachers basically ignoring the kids. I had to tell these kids to stop touching things, one kid barged my son out the way when he was looking at the human torpedo exhibit and unfortunately they turned up when we were sat the remembrance chapel and one of the started making what he though was funny gestures and the teacher just laughed at him. The kids then started making farting noises. I understand kids being loud but teachers should make sure they are not touching things and show the proper respect in certain places. I say this as a teacherVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2023

This exhibition is amazing, so grateful it has been kept and maintained by the originator. It really needs a good 3 or 4 hours to read, experience and see it all.
The story it tells and the exhibits are spine chilling, educational, heart warming, emotive and much more.
Great value for money, great for adults and children, play area, cafe, outside exhibits , large car park, affordable, accessible and dog friendly in a fantastic part of the country. Suitable for dry, warm, cold or wet day.
My comment about the thin gentleman who was on sentry duty was condescending and off putting with his covid 19 remarks in my view.

Unfortunately, after 'bigging' this place up to my partner it fell quite a way short of what I remember it being, as a younger child.
After receiving an email informing us there would be a school trip there, but that they are normally gone by 2pm, we decided to get there a little later than originally planned. Unfortunately the place was still over-run with loud, shouty kids who were doing their best to compete with each other at being the loudest and most annoying.
(Not the fault of Eden, but didn't help my experience).
The exhibits were very...dull. There were no interactive sections for my 8 year old to try and learn anything, except a large map which lit up a tiny led when you pressed a button (providing you pressed one of the few that were still working). Far too much reading for anyone under the age of 60 - unfortunately this age group love to stand in the tiny aisles and read every last bit of info in-front of them, meaning you either had to squeeze past or wait until they'd finished.
I remember being a little in awe at the noise and smoke, vibrating floors etc. as a child...none of this anymore.
None of the warnings at the hut entrances (warning: strobe lights, noise etc) actually meant anything as there were no strobe lights or particularly loud noises (at least these could have gave some excitement).
The submarine hut was the only one which gave a tiny insight into 'what used to be'.
The restaurant was overpriced for what was on offer, and little to no filling in the pastries (although the cake was very good).
In the end we spent more time running around the 'POW exercise camp', in order to try and burn off some energy before going home, than actually going around the exhibits.
Unfortunately we were all (my mum & stepdad included) a little deflated by this experience, which we remember used to play a pivotal role in our mini breaks to Flamingo land.

Eden camp is a wonderful place for learning and emersion in British and European WWII history. My partner and I arrived around midday and we didn't end up leaving until just before the camp closing time (5pm); the amount of information and model displays in the 27 or so huts on site was astonishing. Even if you were to spend a few days meandering through the grounds, I don't think you'd be able to take everything in! I ended up taking pictures of many of the displays on lesser known topics so I could read them on the car trip back. This is a great place for all age groups - for us adults, it's a great chance to broaden your knowledge on the impacts of various wars on the front and at home. Each hut covers a different aspect of war history across countries and time periods, not exclusively during WWII. There are various war memorials around the camp; one of particular poignancy was the chapel area in the final hut which was very moving and respectfully done.
There is a lovely war themed cafe and gift shop on site. I collect fridge magnets from my trips so would have loved a tiny bit more variety in the range! But regardless, I was glad to support this brilliant hub for education on war history. I will most definitely be returning some day. The tickets were very reasonably priced for the experience and the staff and all those who have been involved in building Eden Camp up over the years should be proud of their achievements.
For anybody holidaying in Whitby I would recommend making the trip here!

I would have given the museum 5stars, for all the reasons others have said. Very good preparations for Covid, signage, mask reminders, arrows, and sanitisers etc. But going into some of the huts, the social distancing was not monitored and frankly quite worrying and impossible to achieve with the numbers of people crushed into narrow enclosed spaces. We are pensioners and felt very uncomfortable at times. We had to avoid many of the more popular huts. Maybe putting a volunteer on most huts to limit numbers, or giving visitors a morning or afternoon slot?

Lots of information across lots of huts, however we found it difficult to stop and read it all as corridors are narrow so a blockage of groups less interested in reading everything built up behind so felt obliged to skip parts and move on. Writing was also small so couldn't read from a distance either.
A one way system through the huts was set up guiding you to the next one but no social distancing markers inside the huts which some visitors clearly needed.
Prebooked entry was required but could turn up at any time, feel the attraction could benefit from timed admission slots and more staff around hut entrances to help with social distancing.

Visited while on holiday with the family and unfortunately we timed it wrong as there were a couple of school groups on a visit as well and the teachers appeared to have no control over them as they were running wild and definitely not adhering to social distancing. This was also the case with other members of the public which led to us leaving after only doing 10 huts. We’d hoped to have lunch in the cafe but prices for sandwiches were rather expensive so we gave it a miss. We were also rather disappointed with the gift shop as my 3year old was hoping to get a toy plane like the ones he’d seen within the museum but there were none to be found.

We were in Whitby and decided to make this a thing to do if the weather was not too good. We arrived at the main gate of the attraction which does not open until 10:00 am on the dot . We were first in the queue as we arrived early but like everything nowadays some one will plead ignorance and drive straight in front of you , sorry we did not realise you were waiting to go in. We paid the admission charge and followed the road round to the car park. From here it is clearly marked the numbering of the huts so you start at no 1 and go round the camp until the end . It’s clearly marked the entrances and exits but again some people find it hard to follow instructions. The attraction took a good 3 hours plus and was very informative with great displays and audio input . We used the restaurant and toilets and both were very clean and presented , there were a few schools groups visiting of youngsters but they were very good and adhered to Covid ruling and a credit to their schools

We visited here on the way back from Whitby as we have mentioned going before. My partner has an interest in history and the military so it was the perfect place for him. Even I enjoyed working my way through the various sheds. It was an absolute bargain for £11 each with so much content you could spend at least an hour in each shed reading and looking at pictures and items on display. The camp covers not only both world wars but also more modern wars in great detail. There are various tanks and vehicles around the sheds to look at. We only spent around 4 hours here but I would return and go through everything again. We don’t have children but if we did I’m sure we would be regular visitors here as it is educational and interesting. We stopped at the cafe and had a hot chocolate and cake which were lovely. The gift shop stocked a lot of toys and gifts. It was very cold and windy when we visited and although we both had winter coats on it was very cold inside each of the sheds which is part of the reason we only spent 4 hours here. Make sure you wrap up warm and wear comfortable shoes and it will be a very enjoyable and informative day at a bargain price!

From the moment we arrived and greeted by the lady at the entrance dressed in 40s theme, it got better and better, we got there at Just after 10am and didn’t leave until nearly 5 pm. We saved £3 each by booking on line and this was easy and also just 1 hour before we arrived.
The whole experience was excellent, the toilets, the catering facilities were all excellent and clean, as far as the choice of food this was of good quality, fabulous bacon roll and fresh hot tea, remember this is a museum not a four star restaurant.
The proprietors should be proud, well done all.

Have visited many times over the years and we weren’t disappointed this time.
So many new things being built that I am sure will really add to the thrill of the place! Something for the whole family here and you will need the whole day to see it all! We met a man there who was also visiting but he was so knowledgable on the subjects and really added to our enjoyment by taking time to explain how things worked! We cannot thank him enough. We never got his name but he was wearing a T-shirt with a Jeep on the front and really made our day so much more interesting!
Even without our unofficial guide this museum is well worth the trip.
My only criticism is the cafe is a bit pricey ( £7.45p for three post mix fizzy drinks) but please don’t be put off you won’t be disappointed.
We especially loved the women at war section and the Auxiliary fire service display where they are rescuing a baby from a burning house!
Keep up the good work Eden camp.

Hello. We plan to visit in a couple of weeks. Do you still allow dogs?
Thank you
Written 22 July 2018
Yes we do allow well behaved and friendly dogs on short leads into the museum. They are allowed in all our exhibition huts and we also have a specially designated area in our Café (Hut 16-17) (Please ask a member of catering staff) Alternatively we have plenty of outdoor seating in the vicinity of our Café where food and drink purchased inside can be consumed outside.
The only place we do not allow dogs is in our Children's Play area.
