Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

South Moor will challenge your golfing techniques and it won't give up a low score very easily.

It will also test your fitness as there are the odd hill or three... to climb. All add to the playability and enjoyment of the course.

I didn't find the bunkers so cannot comment on them 😉

The greens were in good nick and playing fast.

Decent sized golf shop and clubhouse. Good practise area. Extremely friendly staff and members will make you feel very welcome.

It is worth a visit.

I was lucky enough to be introduce to SouthMoor GC 10 years ago as a new player to the game.
I've played most of the courses in the north east and can say SouthMoor is a true test not the longest but tight and unforgiving, but the rewards are there to be had.
The staff are most helpful both in the clubhouse and around the course.
A large well stocked pro shop is attached to the clubhouse, and the new practice facilities are second to non in the area.

Wanted to play here for a while and wasn't disappointed.
The pro shop is one of the very best I've seen on a course. Picked up a bargain trade in driver. The fella in The shop couldn't Have been more helpful.
The course itself is good. Quite challenging but some good opportunities to score well, except the 15th, dog leg, a real round destroyer. Take your time on this hole.
The members we met here were very friendly.
Had a big breakfast sandwich at the bar after the round, amazing.
Definitely going back.

A friend and myself booked to play on the 8th April 2016, when we turned up we paid then were told we had to play off fairway matts, which if i had known this before i wudnt have played. Then a group of members went off before there tee time in front of us then proceeded to play in a 5 ball. I contacted the clubhouse about this and they did nothing about it, on the evening after i emailed the club secretary about this incident and have once again been ignored which can only tell me that this club has absolutley no care for its paying day members and will never be playing here again.

South Moor Golf Club is based just on the outskirts of the village and is only 15 minutes from Durham City Centre. The golf course is well looked and after by excellent ground staff. At the weekend it is very hard to get on if you don't play in comps and when the team are playing at home make sure that you tee off about an hour before they play. Some of the people that watch the team are very unsociable and best to stay away from them.
The clubhouse is well stocked up with drinks and they do good bar food.

We are a bit perplexed about this review. It has taken 10 months for you to do a review. From experience the food then was at best basic, now it is fantastic, and gets complements all the time. Weekends are always busy, its a by-product of being successful, however after 2pm on Saturday and Sunday is quite quiet, always contact the pro shop beforehand. As for the comment about the followers of the gents league team, that is simply untrue, a better bunch of people you could not wish to meet. Nearly every club cannot wait to get to SMGC for the special test and welcome that they get. Again, we do not understand your comments.

Had a snapped club re-shafted, repairs can't be guaranteed and I understand that, and I've had a bit of a mare with the new plugged shaft, Ive been back to the pro shop twice, and both times have been dealt with by both lads that work there, these lads are a Credit to the club and couldn't of done more to help me. Very welcoming and a good bit craic, about the course etc, something which isn't offered in all club shops, I can tell you !
Little things like this go along way in my eyes.
And I am looking forward to getting back up to play the course when it dries out a bit. Great service from a great club.

We had our baby girls christening here and it was brilliant, the room has recently been done up So is nice and tidy, the staff were lovely and everyone commented on how good the buffet was, everything was homemade and really tasty. I'd recommend anyone booking for a function or popping in for a meal as the food is delicious we were over the moon.

Thanks to everyone for making her day so special.

South moor golf club is one of they special golf courses in the North East designed by Dr Alastair Mackenzie. He with Bobby Jones designed the famous Augusta National course. A very playable course but also challenging. A nice mixture of holes. The Clubhouse has a friendly welcoming atmosphere and serves good food.
The Pro Shop is well stocked and offer competitive prices.
Golf Professionals Shaun and Mark will make sure you have great day.

My first visit to this course. As many young children get support from parents & grandparents for the Srixon tour. It's a great pleasure to say all staff & members had a very warm friendly welcome waiting for us. A very well stocked golf shop with a more than helpful staff member. Onto lunch the meal was more than enjoyable & served hot. In all a wonderful day
