What an amazing place! Lismore is a fabulous little town surrounded by stunning woodland walks and scenic views. Lismore Castle is architecturally breathtaking however the castle is not open to the public.
The Lismore Heritage Centre is easily accessible and located directly in the town with convenient parking very close by. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. There is an escape room that is so much fun for all the family. The most amazing thing here, however, is the Lismore Castle Experience, this is a virtual reality experience inside Lismore Castle, and it is amazing!!! You step back in time and meet all the castle's famous inhabitants and guests and it really gives you more insight into the rich history of Lismore and Lismore Castle. The centre also has a shop that is full of gorgeous local products and perfect gifts! Highly recommend visiting here!

Our school was made very welcome and had a great experience. The children got a kick out of seeing their own locality on screen. They had many chats about it afterwards. Highly recommended! I hope they bring their friends and families along.

We went to the Heritage Centre to view the new Lismore Castle Experience, Alice brought us through to the start of it and explained as we went along it was absolutely brilliant! what a way to see inside the Castle and the rooms! I won't spoil it by writing it here but IT is a MUST DO when you go to Lismore!! The Staff all super friendly and they have a great gift shop there for you to take away some souvenirs of your trip.

Our lovely "landlady" at our rental home told us about this awesome place. Since you can't go into Lismore Castle, they have created a virtual experience that actually makes you feel as if you are in the castle. It starts with a chat by Sir Walter Raleigh (original owner) and moves forward through history. You actually feel as if you are in the bedroom where JFK slept, as well as the living room, ball room, kitchen etc. Don't miss this if you are in the area!

My husband and I started our day trip to Lismore at the Heritag Center. The staff was friendly and helpful, explaining with a map what we could do and see throughout the town. We very much enjoyed Lady Louisa's Walk, the cathedral, gardens, and park as recommended by the staff, and we had a blast doing the escape room. It was our first time doing an escape room, so we appreciated Meghan checking in on us and giving us a couple of hints along the way.

If this is your first visit to the lovely and historic town of Lismore, I would strongly recommend you visit the Heritage Centre and make time to see the audio visual presentation on the story and the historic sites of Lismore. Irish visitors might like to know that the presentation in English is narrated by Niall Tobin, who tells the story of Lismore in his own funny and highly entertaining way. As well as the historic details of Lismore, the presentation also tells you the sights to visit in the town and also about the interesting places to see in the surrounding countryside. It is well worth spending the 15 or 20 minutes at the show before exploring the town. Entry price is 4 or 5 euro but a combined ticket can be bought for 10euro which covers the visit to this centre and Lismore Castle Gardens if you are inclined to visit the gardens. Normal entry to the Castle Gardens is 8 euro. I got this information from the Heritage Centre. BTW Lismore Castle is not open for public visits, you can only visit the Castle gardens. The only downside of our visit to the lovely Lismore was to see the number of shops on the main street that had gone out of business, a sad sight but very representative of the situation in many Irish towns and cities thanks to bad planning decisions so common in Ireland.

We arrived too late for the morning scheduled tour and way too early for the afternoon one, but Alice O'Donoghue of the Heritage Center took us on a tour just for us. She was a wealth of information about architecture, history, famous and infamous locals, the Cathedrals and the castle. You can buy a detailed booklet and do your own tour but we don't think there is any substitute for a personal guide. She was one of the best. The Heritage Center is small but it has a decent little craft shop. And clean bathrooms. We were too hot and foot weary to stay for the Audio visual presentation (separate charge) and opted for a pint and lunch at Eamonn's in the gorgeous back garden, before heading to tour the grounds of Lismore Castle.

Our group done the VR tour today. Gearoid was our guide. Friendly and knowledgeable about Lismore and the castle. The VR experience it’s self was excellent. Would highly recommend it. Only suggestion made by a member of our group was a swivel seat ☺️ But I look forward to doing this tour again.
10/10 well done
