We enjoyed Hells gate and the tour was v informative, Great that it is owned by Maori people, sacred land there as it was the place where Maori warriors bathed themselves after battle in the falls there. Amazing to see such hot boiling geothermal activity once you get used to smell. Then we enjoyed the mud bath but please take... More

The guided tour is very informative. It's a small but full of activity thermal park. The spa mud pool and sulphur pools are nice but better to do on a non hot day. Avoid the private spa pools because they are small and claustrophobic and more expensive !

Hell’s Gate is the only Maori owned geothermal park in New Zealand. The English name came from the playwright George Bernard Shaw who visited in the early nineteen hundreds. He said that he was sure this must be the gateway to hell that his colleagues said he would pass through as long as he remained an atheist. The Maori kept... More

We visited the Springs recently and enjoyed it very much. We joined a guided tour which was good, the guide gave us more information than we would have found out for ourselves, which included experiencing the use of bentonite on our hands which was fun. It also included having a go at some wood carving with help at the end... More

This is a must when visiting NZ!! We were here for around 4 hours, we purchased a package which included thermal walk, sulphur pool, mud bath and massage. It costed $330 for both us which seems expensive but it was worth it for what we received. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had Kelly as our tour guide... More

Such a great spot to see and understand the geothermal side of Rotorua. There is a small fee to enter the park and make sure you have sensible footwear to walk around. There are spa packaging available to soak also however I did not choose this option. There is times of the day where you can be taken around by... More

The staff here are so lovely and helpful. I booked for the wrong day but they still accepted me into that time slot. The spa attendant took photos for me and my friends while we were covered in the amazing mud. The mud pools are amazing. You spend 20minutes lathering on the mud and letting it dry. When you wash... My family visited Hells Gate Spa and Mud Baths in January 2017 and really enjoyed the entire experience. In addition to the mud bath/ spa, we paid for an hour's guided tour of the park, which is recommended over walking the park alone. Our guide, Jack, was full of fun facts, surprising stories and interesting information, which made the walk... More

This local attraction in Rotorua cost $35 for adults which allows you to walk around the volcanic hot mud lakes of Rotorua. They suggest the walk takes about an hour, but my mate and I did it in about 25 minutes. It is interesting to see and learn about these hot bubbling sulphuric mud pits, but there is not much... A quick stop to explore and rejuvenate! I walked the entire grounds and it's quit fascinating. I finished with a real mud bath and a sulphur bath and felt totally refreshed. Make sure to bring older bathing suit since I am still trying to get some mud out of mine : ). The day I went was quit warm (28˚C!),... More
